本文是笔者基于《篮球教学》英译汉项目的翻译实践报告,从篮球爱好者的角度探讨如何兼顾儿童篮球教材中的教育性和可读性,重点关注术语以及文本和插图等多种元素的表达效果。为了确保教材的教育性,笔者首先从词的角度出发,在归纳整理教材中相关篮球术语的基础上把术语分类,再根据不同的术语种类选择相适应的翻译方法:主要通过保留术语和去术语两种方法对术语翻译归纳总结。此外,在句子层面,笔者着重于转变句子的语言风格,以此增加文本的引导性和对话性。为了加强文本的可读性,笔者结合儿童读物的文本特征,重点讨论了图文结合表达和赋予教材人物个性身份两方面对教材生动可读的作用,以提高儿童的阅读兴趣。本文基于以上内容总结了儿童篮球教材的翻译方法,并针对翻译和分析过程中存在的问题提出了相关改进建议。在未来的研究中,译者可以用其他更多文本来检验本文中提出的翻译方法和策略,以进一步提出补充和修改。

Learning Basketball is a foreign children's basketball textbook, which introduces the development and the history of basketball, the norms and standards of basketball action, the wearing matters of basketball equipment, and the tactical rules of basketball games for basketball beginners. The book aims at instructing beginners to understand basketball knowledge, learn basketball skills, and strengthen their body. On this basis, the book intends to cultivate the children's sense of teamwork and healthy living habits.

This paper is a report of Chinese-English translation project of LearningBasketball. From the perspective of a basketball player, the author discusses how to balance the instruction and the readability of children's basketball textbooks, focusing on the processing of terms and the expression effect of multiple elements such as text and illustration. In terms of instruction, starting from the perspective of terminology, the author classifies basketball terminology based on summarizing and organizing relevant terms in the materials. Subsequently, different translation methods are selected according to the types of terms, primarily through the analysis of term translation using two approaches: retaining the terminology and removing the terminology. At the sentence level, the author emphasizes transforming the language style, making the text more introductory and communicative. To reinforce the text's readability, the author combines characteristics of children's literature, focusing on the roles of integrating images with text and imbuing instructional characters with distinct personalities. This discussion aims to enhance the vivid and readable aspects of instructional materials, ultimately elevating children's interest in reading. Based on these considerations, this paper summarizes translation methods for children's basketball instructional materials. Additionally, some recommendations are proposed to address issues encountered during the translation and analysis process. In future research, translators can examine the proposed translation methods and strategies with a more extensive range of texts, providing further supplements and modifications.
