中文摘要: |
This study is an analysis of Financial Management factors that led to poor performance of Small, and Medium enterprises (SMEs) in South East District of Botswana. Most studies broadly analyze factors leading to SMEs good performance and none has actually looked in to specific Financial Management skills that need to be learned in order to bring about SMEs success, hence the need for this study. The study is aimed at finding out how various aspects of the business such as working capital management, financial structure management, financial planning and control, accounting information systems and financial analysis and reporting impact SMEs.
The researcher specifically studies the controlled impact of the age of a firm on the connection between SMEs Financial Management factors and their performance in South East Botswana. After careful analysis, the research demonstrates that Financial Management factors have an impact on SMEs performance, and that the age of a firm has a controlled impact on the relationship between Financial Management factors and the performance of SMEs.
Data was collected from ninety two (92) business firms from various sectors of the economy using a self-administered questionnaire. Data was analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). Analytical findings indicated that Working Capital Management, Financial Planning and Control and Accounting Information Systems Management, Financial Structure Management and Financial Reporting and Analysis have an impact on Botswana SMEs performance.
The study recommended, amongst other things, holding business seminars to educate SME owners on how to handle finances in the business; improving access to business loans; adoption of accounting systems in businesses and keeping a report of business progress, would lead to a greater success of Botswana small and medium firms.
