This article takes Chinese fans of BLACKPINK for an example to explore how individual fans form their identities and take part in collective behavior in the fandom based on social identity theory , using the method of online participant observation and semi-structured interviews. It finds that BLACKPINK’s fans take action on the base of identities formed in the fandom. To begin with the identity of idols, some fans join the fandom and generate the identity of fans, finally joining in the collective behavior such as right-defending activities and cyberbullying. This differentiation is caused by how social identities are satisfied in the reality. The phenomenon appearing in BLACKPINK’s fans isn’t only limited to one particular fandom but also exists everywhere on the Internet now, which becomes an important feature of the current socio-cultural environment.
