Problematic use of short videos refers to the use of short videos for a long time and high intensity, resulting in a negative impact on the physical, psychological and behavioral aspects of the individual, but has not yet met the clinical diagnostic criteria for mental illness. undergraduates are one of the important user groups of short videos, and the research finds that the problematic use of short videos has a negative impact on the mental health, social behavior and academic performance of undergraduates, so it is necessary to explore the connotation and influencing factors of the problematic use of short video. There are some shortcomings in the existing research on problematic use of short video, including insufficient understanding of the connotation of problematic use of short video, lack of effective measuring tools for problematic use of short video, and exploration of influencing factors of problematic use of short videos needs to be further refined. In view of the above deficiencies, this study aims to explore the connotation and structure of problematic use behavior of short videos for undergraduates, and compiled the Problematic Use Scale of Short videos for undergraduates. Combining with the Media Dependency Theory and the Interaction of Person-Affect-Cognition-Execution Model, the present study also explored the influence of individual factors (stress perception), platform factors (personalized recommendation algorithms) and social factors (social norms) on the problematic use of short videos among undergraduates. The research included two parts. One is the development and validation of the Problematic Use Scale for Undergraduates, and the other one is the exploration of the influencing factors of problematic use of short videos for undergraduates. In terms of the connotation exploration and scale compilation of problematic use of short videos by undergraduates, the research first collected and sorted out the typical manifestations of problematic use of short videos through a semi–open questionnaire survey, and supplemented and revised the existing problems of measuring problematic use of short videos based on the results of qualitative analysis. Through exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, the paper further explored and verified the structure of problematic use of short videos for undergraduates, and finally formed the Problematic Use Scale of short videos for undergraduates. The scale includes 18 questions and consists of 4 dimensions: short videos addiction, short videos dependence, compulsive use and unconscious use. The Cronbach's α coefficient of the total volume table was 0.92, and the Cronbach's α coefficients of each dimension were 0.80 (short videos addiction), 0.72 (compulsive use), 0.69 (short videos dependence) and 0.84 (unconscious use), respectively. The results of confirmatory factor analysis of the scale were well fitted, and there was significant positive correlation between the scores of each dimension (rs > 0.60) and the total score of the scale and the criterion (rs > 0.50).In terms of the exploration of influencing factors of problematic use of short videos by undergraduates, this study takes the Problematic Use Scale of Short videos by undergraduates compiled by Study 1 as a measuring tool, combines the Media Dependency Theory and the Social cognitive theory, and divides the influencing factors into three aspects: individual (pressure perception), platform (personalized recommendation algorithm) and environment (social norms). To explore the relationship between problematic use of short videos and influencing factors. The results show that pressure perception can positively predict the level of problematic use of short video. In this relationship, personalized recommendation algorithm and social norms play a regulating role respectively. Specifically, the problematic use level of undergraduates' short videos will increase with the improvement of social norms. Compared with the low level of social norms, the influence of pressure perception on the problematic use of short videos will be weakened at the high level. The problematic use level of undergraduates' short videos also increases with the improvement of the level of personalized recommendation algorithm. Compared with the level of low personalized recommendation algorithm, the influence of pressure perception on the problematic use of short videos is weakened at high level. |
