Contemporary young people are keen on “keep pets”, they regard the pet as the child, their pet attachment degree is very high. Pet attachment has been shown to have an effect on feelings of procreation, and there are many similarities between pets and children, so pet attachment may influence the reproductive behavior of pet owners. Some studies have suggested that pets can act as a surrogate, dampening owners'desire to procreate; others have suggested that pets can stimulate owners'desire to procreate. Different conclusions may be due to the subjective social class of pet owners. Evolutionary psychology studies fertility desire as a part of the theory of life history, which provides a theoretical basis to explain fertility desire. This study explored the different effects of pet attachment on the reproductive intentions of different groups of young people, and tried to explore the mechanism of this effect. The purpose of this study is to explore whether pet attachment has an effect on the fertility desire of young people. In the first study, the effects of pet attachment on procreation intention were investigated by using pet-human interaction and pet troublesome materials to activate different levels of pet attachment perception. The first study explored the relationship between pet attachment and procreation intention, and the second study examined the effect of pet attachment on procreation intention, as well as the moderating effect of subjective social class. In Study 2, the degree of pet attachment and the level of procreation intention, as well as the moderating effect of subjective social stratum were investigated by questionnaire. The results show that the moderating effect of subjective socio-economic status is established. Individuals with high subjective socioeconomic status are more sensitive to the change of pet attachment, while individuals with low subjective social class are less sensitive to the change of pet attachment.
