Career compromise is an important part in career decision, and it has attracted more and more attention , while little attention has been paid to the impact of the compromise on the college students' adaptation to the workplace. Career compromise refers to the process that individuals adjust their professional ambitions or their goals to adapt to the external world due to some obstacles. The results of the literature on the order of compromise are inconsistent, at the same time, it affects the job satisfaction and subjective well-being. According to Bandura's theory, in such a case, people often take some coping strategies to achieve a balanced state. Therefore, two studies have been set up to explore the career compromise strategies of Chinese college students and the moderating effect of coping strategies on compromise and job performance.
The results of t test and logistic regression showed that when a college student faces a career choice, when the individual needs to face a slight compromise, people will consider their own interest firstly; and when moderate compromise , the welfare of the job is the most important factor . Prestige is more important than welfare and interest in severe situation.
Study two, a total of 283 subjects were tracked in study 1, including 149 boys and 134 girls. The subjects were required to complete the Work Performance Scale and the Coping Strategy Scale, at the same time, record the current occupations of each subject, and compared with the ideal occupations reported in Study 1. The difference of acctebale score between ideal jobs and current jobs, is the degree of compromise. Range of value is 0 to 6. Larger difference indicated the higher degree of compromise. Hierarchical regression analysis are used to calculate the relationship between compromise degree and job performance, and test the role of coping strategies. And Johnson-Neyman is the method of simple slope analysis.
The results of hierarchical regression analysis showed that career compromise negatively predict job performance, while career coping strategies regulate the relationship between career compromise and job performance. Specifically, when career coping strategies were low, career compromise and job performance have a significant negative correlation; while career coping strategies were high, there was no significant correlation between career compromise and work performance.
Conclusion: the order of College Students' career compromise is interest, welfare, social prestige, and the degree of compromise negatively predicted the work performance, and the coping strategies played an moderate role in the degree of compromise and work performance.
