《普通高中英语课程标准》(2017 版)将思维品质列入英语四大主要教学目标之一。新课程标准的出台,标志着英语教学中学生的思维品质教育越来越被学校和老师们所关注。英语课 程已不仅仅局限于语言的学习,它还应为思而教,为思而学。英语学科不再只聚焦于语言学习 本身,而是要为思而教,为思而学。在高中英语课堂上,课本是英语学习的主要工具,也是培 养学生思维品质的重要媒介。教材指令语是引导教师教学和学生学习的重要部分,它使得师生 都能更好地明晰教材活动的意图。通过对教科书指令语的分析与研究,既能使师生理解新课标 对学生思维品质培养的要求,又能体现教材中所呈现的指向学生思维品质培养的学习活动设计。基于 2017 年版新课标的理念,译林出版社于 2019 年发行了新版高中英语教材。为了研究2019 年译林版高中英语教材指令语设计所反映的培养学生思维品质的指引特征,笔者自建了一个关于译林版 2019 年高中英语必修教材指令语的微型语料库。并基于布鲁姆教育目标分类理论(修改版)和建构主义理论对三本必修教材中的指令语所指向的思维品质培养情况进行分析研究,在理论与教学实践中都有一定价值。思维品质是指思维逻辑性、批判性、创新性等方面所表现的能力和水平。” 这三种思维品质可以具体为布鲁姆教育目标分类理论(修改版) 的六个认知层次。这六个层次的发展是由低到高,由浅入深的过程,与思维品质的发展相一致。本研究从内部评价入手,通过对所确定的动词和一些疑问词进行检索,采用语料库分析法和内容分析法,对 2019 年译林版高中英语教材(必修 1-3)中的指令语展开研究,以解决以下问题:

1. 译林版高中英语教材中与思维品质培养有关的指令性话语中的高频检索词有哪些?这些高频词呈现什么特点?

2. 新教材指令语的设计如何指向学生思维品质的培养?

通过研究分析发现,第一,指导学生思维活动的高频词具有集中性,辨识度高且功能性强的特点,有利于培养学生的思维品质。第二,译林版高普通高中英语教科书的必修部分的指令性话语所引导的思维活动侧重于发展学生思维品质中的逻辑性思维,注重培养学生的基础知识和语言运用能力,但教材指向分析层次的指令语较少。同时,批判性思维和创造性思维的培养在译林版新教材中也受到一定重视,指向批判性思维的指令语数量逐步增加。第三,从三本教材之间的对比和一本教材的一个单元不同板块的指令性话语的对比可以看出,新教材指令语的设计对学生思维品质的培养具有层次性和递进性。

结合数据分析结果,本研究为新教材的编写者和教师提出了一些建议。在译林版高中英语教材的普及和使用之际,笔者希望通过对新版高中英语必修教材指令语的分析,为教材编者对教材中指令语的编写,以及在教师在实际教学中对教材进行合理使用提供相应的参考。希望教材和教师能够逐步完善和提高在英语教学中培养学生思维品质的效果,真正做到学思并重,让语言变成传播知识、帮助思维的工具。

 

外文摘要:

The English Curriculum Standard for General High Schools (2017 edition) identifies quality of thinking as one of the four curriculum objectives of the core competency of English. With the advancement of revised curriculum standards, schools and teachers in the English subject are increasingly paying attention to the cultivation of thinking quality. It is no longer sufficient to focus only on language learning, but English must now be taught for thinking and learned for thinking. Students learn English mainly from textbooks in high school, so textbooks also serve as an invaluable medium for enhancing students' thinking quality. A textbook's directive discourse is an effective part of guiding teachers' teaching and students' learning. This is because it allows both teachers and students to understand the purpose of the textbook activities. In this regard, analyzing and studying the directive language can assist teachers and students in understanding the revised curriculum standards for the development of students' thinking skills. It can also reflect the teaching philosophy implied in the curriculum and the cognitive level required for a student's thinking to develop.

Based on the concept of the 2017 edition of the revised curriculum standards, Yilin Press released a new edition of high school English textbooks in 2019. The author built a mini-corpus that relies on the command phrases in the 2019 Yilin General High School English Textbooks to study the guiding features of developing students' thinking quality. The three compulsory textbooks are analyzed and studied based on Bloom's classification of educational objectives (revised version) and constructivist theory, which is both of substantial theoretical and practical significance. It is composed of logical, critical, and creative thinking. Bloom's Classification Theory of Educational Objectives (Modified Version) specifies these three qualities of thinking as six cognitive levels. From low to high and from superficial to deep, these six levels are developed in harmony with the development of thinking quality. Using the internal evaluation as a starting point, this dissertation conducted a comparative analysis of the words within the Yilin General High School English Textbook (Required book 1-3) by searching the identified verbs and some question words, analyzing the corpus and performing content analysis to answer the following questions.

1. What are the high-frequency search terms in the directive discourse related to the development of thinking quality in the Yilin General High School English Textbook? What are the characteristics of these high-frequency words?

2. How does the design of the new textbook's directive discourse aim at the development of students' thinking quality?

First, the high-frequency words that guide students' thinking activities are focused, recognizable, and functional, which are  conducive  to the development  of students' thinking quality.  Secondly,  the directive words in the compulsory part of the high school English textbook of the Transliteration Edition focus on the development of logical thinking in the quality of students' thinking and on the development  of  students'  basic  knowledge   and   language   skills,   but   the   textbook   has   fewer directive words that point to the analytical level. At the same time, the development of critical and creative thinking is also given some attention in the revised textbook. The number of directives pointing to critical thinking gradually increases. Third, the comparison among the three textbooks  and the comparison of the directive discourse in different sections of a unit in one textbook shows that the design of the directive discourse in the revised textbook is hierarchical and progressive in the development of students' thinking quality.

Based on the analysis of the data, this study offers some suggestions for the authors and teachers of the proposed textbooks. It is the author's intention that the analysis of the directive discourse in the Yilin high school English textbooks will provide corresponding references for the textbook writers in preparation of the command phrases in the textbooks and for the teachers in the rational use of the textbooks in actual teaching. There is a hope that both the textbook and the teachers can contribute to the process of cultivating students' thinking skills. In addition, they can turn learning and thinking into a tool for spreading knowledge and helping students to think.
