"View of selflessness" choice is a key issue in the philosophy of Madhyamaka. On the issue of how to define "Self" and choose the scope, order, and reason of “selflessness”. "Prasangika madhyamaka" and "Svatantrika madhyamaka" hold different opinions. This not only produces a division of confessionalism, but also makes the problem more complicated and difficult to discern. Prasangika madhyamaka believes that "Self" does not rely on its own nature, and neither the meaning of Ultimate Truths nor the Conventional Truths are inherent. The Svatantrika madhyamaka believes that "Self" is a person's mind-stream. In phenomena, ultimately all things are the self lack intrinsic nature, but they have intrinsic character conventionally. Regarding the differences between the two factions on this issue, from the perspective of distinguishing and analyzing the tenets of different faction systems, the main reason f lies in the difference in the theoretical basis of the two factions. The reason for Prasangika madhyamaka’s choice is that it is based on the theory that "imputation also need rely on imputation (imputation does not exist essentially)”. Svatantrika madhyamaka are mainly based on the principle that " imputation depend on facts”. therefore there are different degrees of choice for selflessness. On the other hand, from the perspective of practicing Buddhism, though different opinions have successive stages, there is no superiority and inferiority.
