With the advancement of technology, electronic products have increasingly influenced people's lives. While technology has helped us, it has also aggressively competed for our attention. Consequently, there is a growing population of individuals who use their phones excessively, which not only disrupts their daily lives and academic/work performance but also poses significant risks to their physical and mental health. Psychological research has found that an individual's self-control has an impact on mobile phone dependence, but research on the mechanism between self-control and mobile phone dependence is relatively scarce. This study aims to explore the relationship between self-control and mobile phone dependence, as well as test and examine the effectiveness of a self-developed self-control training program in reducing mobile phone dependence and its mechanisms. Study 1 focused on course development and iteration. The effects and feedback of the self-control training program were collected through interview methods (N = 10), with 9 valid interviews subjected to thematic analysis, resulting in 119 entries that preliminarily confirmed the effectiveness of the course and provided valuable feedback for course iteration. Study 2 used a self-control intervention course for intervention, and in a randomized controlled design experiment (N = 230), the intervention group showed a significant improvement in self-control level compared to the waitlist group, while improvements in mobile phone dependence, loneliness, and general self-efficacy did not reach statistical significance. In the intervention group, self-control, mobile phone dependence, loneliness, and general self-efficacy exhibited significant correlations. Path analysis also found that self-control had an effect on loneliness, general self-efficacy, and mobile phone dependence, although the mediating effects of loneliness and general self-efficacy were not supported. This study verified the effectiveness of the course in improving self-control ability through a randomized controlled intervention study. The study also further explored the relationship between self-control, loneliness, general self-efficacy, and mobile phone dependence, providing a reference for further exploration of the mechanism of improving mobile phone dependence through self-control. |
