20世纪80年代,美国全国字幕协会在电视节目中加入字幕,以便于听力障碍人士的看电视过程。自那以后,字幕被广泛应用于外国电影或电视节目中,而依赖字幕观看外语电影或电视节目以成为生活中的常态。若能将字幕引入到外语学习中,将收获一定积极的影响。本研究通过调查问卷的方式,调查学生们对英文影视中字幕的态度。研究发现,学生们对英文影视及其中的字幕持积极态度,并愿意将看影视中的字幕作为学习方式。同时,学生们认为字幕对听力训练、口语表达及单词记忆都有积极的影响。通过比较分析调查问卷的结果,研究还发现,当学习内容不同时(听说读及单词记忆),学生们选择的字幕语言也有不同。英文字幕和中英双语字幕普遍是学生们的首选,但也有一部分学生认为无字幕的英语视频能够对听力训练起到更好的效果。

Since 1980s when captions were first invented by National Captioning Institute of the United States, relying on the target language and Chinese captions while watching foreign movies or television programs has been a common phenomenon in daily life. It is a wise choice to introduce captions into language learning process. This study aims to work on the correlation between captions and language learning. By assigning a questionnaire and analyzing the results of it in the ratio form, it is found that students have positive attitude toward English movies and TV series, and the captions in it for learning purposes. It is also demonstrated that students believe that captions have good effects on facilitating listening and speaking skills, and improve the process of vocabulary acquisition. In addition, English captions and Chinese and English bilingual captions are preferred as better choice for language learning, while non-captioned videos can also be used as material to practice students’ listening skill. At the end of the essay, some pedagogical implications and advises for further study are also put forward.
