Li Zishu and Huang Jinshu traced back to and constructed history, creating a detailed historical picture with their storys. It reflects a change in writing style from fantasizing and piecing together history in a postmodern way to focusing on the difficult daily life of Malaysian Chinese since the 1970s, which was personally experienced, recognized and witnessed. This "local" writing style demonstrates the effort to assume the politics of writing as action and to confirm their own subjectivity, making a valuable attempt for Malaysian Chinese literature to participate in world literature in the midst of change and flux.
