Social anxiety is an emotional and behavioral state in which an individual faces or expects to face one or more social situations for fear of being scrutinized or negatively evaluated, and avoids them as a result. In recent years, more and more college students consider themselves to have social anxiety, and long-term social anxiety can adversely affect an individual's physical and mental health. Self-acceptance is an important factor affecting social anxiety, and the main purpose of this study is to explore the feasibility, process and effect of sandplay therapy intervention for socially college students with social anxiety from the perspective of self-acceptance. This study is a case study, is to sandplay court therapy on two social anxiety college students clients to psychological counseling, selected "Social Avoidance and Distress Scale", "Self-Acceptance Questionnaire", "Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale" to assess the symptoms and counseling effect of the clients, through the results of the scale data, the process of counseling and the client's subjective feedback. The two clients in this study recieved 12 and 15 sandplay sessions respectively, and the clients were returned one month after the end of the intervention to test the effectiveness of the intervention. The results showed that client A's Social Avoidance and Distress Scale decreased from 28 to 11, the Self-Acceptance Questionnaire increased from 24 to 38, and the Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale decreased from 50 to 40. The therapeutic process could be divided into three phases: presenting and preparing, exploring and integrating, and returning and adapting, and the spatial structure of the client was changed from The client's spatial structure gradually became integrated from chaos and fragmentation, and the client's self image had closed and cowering and became more open. In the client's subjective report, the client's social anxiety was also significantly relieved, the level of self-acceptance increased, and the client became more open and generous in social interaction. client B's Social Avoidance and Distress Scale decreased from 21 to 11, the Self-Acceptance Questionnaire increased from 25 to 45, and the Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale decreased from 51 to 35. The therapeutic process can be divided into four stages: presentation of problems and resources, presentation of shadow content, reflection and transformation, and return to daily life with new perspectives. The self-image in the client's work also changed from negative and vague to positive and clear. In the client's subjective report, her social anxiety was also significantly relieved, her level of self-acceptance increased, and her state in social environments became more relaxed. Through the analysis of the counseling process and further summarizing the mechanism of action of sandplay therapy, this study concluded that sandplay therapy enhanced the self-acceptance of socially anxious college students in the following three aspects: (1) the nonverbal nature of sandplay therapy helped socially anxious clients express and vent their emotions; (2) the oneness of the mother and the child provided the possibility of self-integration; and (3) sandplay therapy facilitated the individual's expression and construction. This study concluded that sandplay therapy effectively increased the level of self-acceptance, alleviated social anxiety, and improved social avoidance behaviors in socially anxious college students, and demonstrated a unique process and mechanism of action. |
