2016 年 12 月，《我在故宫修文物》正式上映。纪录片通过文物修复师的视角展现了他们的日常工作，呈现了文物修复的发展史。本片在国外也取得了不俗的成绩，其中，优秀的英文字幕发挥了重要作用，它准确有效地传递了纪录片中的中国文化元素。如今，纪录片已经成为中国故事传播的重要媒介。因此，纪录片的字幕翻译至关重要。

关联理论作为人类交际认知理论，认为语言交际是一个“明示—推理”的过程，要实现交际对象付出最少的努力去理解信息。Gutt 提出的关联翻译理论认为翻译的标准应该与交流一样，就是实现最佳关联。纪录片的字幕翻译可以被视为是纪录片源语制作方、译者和目的语观众之间的一种交际行为。译者需要通过字幕把源语所表达的信息尽可能地传达给目的语观众，让目的语观众以最少的努力获取足够多的语境效果，进而得到与源语观众相同的交际意图。本文在关联理论的指导下，以纪录片电影《我在故宫修文物》的字幕翻译为研究对象，具体分析了关联理论指导下纪录片字幕的翻译方法和策略。经研究发现，在语言方面，使用了增词、转换、合句的翻译方法；在文化层面，采用归化和异化两种翻译策略来处理源字幕所包含的文化信息。本文通过解释说明如何运用关联理论来指导纪录片字幕翻译的研究和实践，验证了该理论对纪录片字幕翻译有指导意义，旨在为纪录片的字幕翻译提供了一些参考价值。

In December 2016, the documentary film Masters in Forbidden City was officially released. It shows the daily work of restorers from their perspective, and presents the history of cultural relic restoration. The documentary has been a great success abroad thanks to the excellent English subtitles, which conveyed Chinese cultural elements precisely and effectively. Nowadays, documentaries have become an important carrier of Chinese stories. Therefore, subtitle translation of documentaries is crucial.

As a cognitive theory of human communication, relevance theory holds that verbal communication is an ostensive-inferential process, which makes receivers understand the information with the least efforts. The relevance translation theory proposed by Gutt emphasizes that the standard of translation should be the same as the standard of communication, namely, to achieve optimal relevance. The documentary subtitle translation can be seen as a communicative behavior among the target audience, source language scriptwriters, and translators. Therefore, translators are supposed to convey the information in the source language to the target audience as much as possible, so that the target audience can achieve sufficient contextual effects with the least processing efforts. In this way, they can acquire the same communicative intention as the source language audiences. In this paper, under the guidance of relevance theory, the subtitle translation of the documentary film Masters in Forbidden City is selected as the research topic to analyze the translation methods and strategies of documentary subtitle. Through the research, it is found that: At the linguistic level, the following three translation methods were used: amplification, conversion, and combination; at the cultural level, two translation strategies—domestication and foreignization—were adopted to deal with the cultural information contained in the source subtitles. Through explaining how relevance theory is applied in the research and practice of documentary subtitle translation, this paper proves that relevance translation theory has instructive significance to documentary subtitle translation, aiming to provide some references for the subtitle translation of documentaries.
