文化教学是汉语国际教育的重要组成部分。本文所探讨的美国匹兹堡大学格林斯堡分校的中国文化选修课与国内针对来华留学生的文化教学有很大的区别,是一种针对汉语零基础学习者的以英文为主要教学语言的独立于语言课之外的文化课文化教学。文中将对文化教学的整体设计进行分析和论述,以文化专题选取以及相对应的课堂活动设计为重点,并结合具体的文化教学案例进行案例介绍与分析。 本研究将首先结合理论与实践阐述本文的写作缘起、梳理国内外相关领域的研究现状、列举所采用的研究方法。 然后是对美国匹兹堡大学孔子学院、匹兹堡大学格林斯堡分校以及《中国语言文化入门课》的相关情况所进行的简介。 接着,在文化专题的选择方面,我们主张教学内容既要包含中国传统文化,又能体现现当代中国的发展;既包含显性文化又包含隐性文化;能够兼顾基础性与学术性;要便于进行课堂活动设计;能够找到与美国文化相联系的文化点。本文呈现了2018匹兹堡大学格林斯堡分校春季学期《中国语言文化入门课》一课的课程专题安排,并从学生的情感与认知两个方面对这些专题进行了评估。在课堂文化活动的设计方面,我们主张活动设计要具有趣味性;要能够帮助学生更好地理解本课主题;要具有可操作性;要能够结合美国文化;要能够体现学生的主观能动性。本文呈现了2018匹兹堡大学格林斯堡分校春季学期《中国语言文化入门课》一课的与各个文化专题相对应的课堂活动,并结合学生的喜爱程度与是否有助于理解专题内容进行了评估。 最后,笔者选取了五个文化教学案例进行介绍与分析,这五个文化教学案例分别是:文化联系与对比——“美式中餐”与“中式美餐”、文化项目体验——古筝名曲《渔舟唱晚》演奏与学生古筝拨弦体验”、“课堂讨论——如何优化黄金法则与白银法则”、“话剧表演——桃花灵感:崔护与艾兹拉·庞德”、“辩论——中国应不应该建立网络防火墙”。文中分别介绍了它们的教学目标、教学准备、处于整个专题教学设计的位置、教学步骤,然后结合文化专题选择以及课堂活动设计的原则、学生的评价与教师教学反思进行案例分析。

Chinese Culture Teaching is vitally important to TCSOL. The culture class designed for non-Chinese-speaking college students in University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg is a class that uses English as teaching language and is separated from the language class as an independent class, which is very different from the culture class designed for the oversea students who are studying in China. This thesis will take University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg as an example, analyzing mainly the teaching design of culture class for non-Chinese-speaking American college learners. The choices of cultural topics and the design of classroom activities for each topic will be the main content, being articulated with 5 typical case analyses. First, with the combination of theories and the author’s teaching experience, this thesis explains the reason of this study, reviews and summarizes the domestic and foreign progress and theories of the relevant fields, and illustrates the research method. Second, there is a brief introduction about Confucius Institute of University of Pittsburgh, about University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg and about the course Introduction to Chinese Language and Culture. And then, In terms of the choices of culture topics, this thesis holds the opinion that the content chosen for culture class should contain both the traditional Chinese culture and the development of modern China, should include not only overt culture but also covert culture, should take both fundamental and academic elements into consideration, should be convenient to hold classroom activities, and should be able to find connections to American culture. In addition, the thesis also presents all the topics chosen for the course and evaluates all the topics regarding students’ feedback. In terms of the design of classroom activities, this thesis suggests that the activities designed for culture class must be interesting, must enable students a better understanding of the topic, must be manageable, must relate to American culture and must arouse students’ subjective initiative. Furthermore, the thesis also presents all the activities, together with an evaluation regarding students’ feedback. Finally, the author chooses five cases to introduce and analyze. The five cases are shown as follows: Culture Comparison --- “American Chinese Food” versus “Chinese American Food”, Culture Experiencing --- the Performance of GuZheng and Students’ First Try on It, Discussion --- “How to Optimize the Golden Rule and the Silver Rule”, Drama Play --- Peach Blossom Inspiration: CuiHu and Ezra Pond, Debate --- Should or Should not China Build the Great Fire Wall? Each section begins by introducing the cases’ teaching purposes, the preparation process, the incorporation of the cases in the whole lesson, the teaching procedures, followed by the analyses based on the principles of choosing the topics and designing the activities, students’ feedback and the author’s teaching reflection.
