提到游手，今天我们可能会以为他们是游手好闲之徒，这种对游手的认识在当代社会可能是主流认识。然而古今有别。在古代社会，游手究竟指何种群体？其内涵及所指对象与当今社会的“游手”存在怎样的差别？古代社会的游手又由哪些群体构成？其本身有无演变，又是如何演变的？他们对都城社会有什么影响？影响程度如何……带着对这些问题的浓厚兴趣，笔者对唐代游手及其与都城社会之间互动关系进行了探讨。唐以降，商品经济繁荣，城市经济功能逐渐凸现。“夜市”的出现、“坊市分隔制度消灭，而代之以自由得多的街道规划，可在城内或四郊各处进行买卖交易”、社会生产的进步与社会分工的发展，促进了城市的发展。城市的发展，尤其是都城，为游手提供了一个生存的“舞台”。社会中的个体或群体都有其存在的价值，都会对社会产生一定的作用及影响。但个体或群体对社会产生的作用及影响的大小是不同的。本文认为：游手是由不同背景、不同阶层和不同社会地位的个体或群体所组成，故他们对都城社会的影响、都城社会对他们的影响以及唐代统治者对待他们的态度也是不同的。唐宋时期，不仅是当时社会的转型期，也是游手的转型期。唐宋以前，无论是统治者还是有远见的大臣，他们虽然认为游手会对当时社会产生影响，应该对其加以管制，但还没有对他们全盘否定；而唐宋以后，正式出现“游手好闲”、“游手无赖”这样并列的称谓。这说明把游手视为了好闲之徒、无赖之徒，无论官方还是民间，开始把游手都视为社会上的不良分子。可以说，唐宋以后，古人对游手的认识发生了质的变化。

Urban development, especially the capital city, give youshou a survival "stage".Community groups or individuals have the value of its existence and will have a definite role and influence. However, individuals or groups have the right social role and impact of the size is different. This paper that :youshou from different backgrounds and different walks of life and different social status of the individuals or groups, therefore, they are the social impact of the capital, the capital city on their social impact and the Tang Dynasty rulers treat their attitude are different.Tang and Song Dynasties, is not only the time of transition, as well as youshou in transition.
