随着美国中小学汉语学习人数的日渐庞大,对教材的需求量越来越大,对教材内容的要求也越来越高。笔者根据在美国一年的儿童汉语教学实践经验,以弗吉尼亚州威廉斯堡地区为例,研究汉办规划教材《汉语乐园》在当地的适用性,不仅为使用该教材和计划使用该教材的教师提供一些实践经验和资料,也对《汉语乐园》提出了一些改进建议,以期为美国儿童汉语教材的发展及研究提供参考,进一步推进全美地区的汉语教学。 本文采用文献分析法、对比研究法和实践验证法。通过查阅文献可知,通用的教材评价原则为该教材是否具有针对性、实用性、科学性以及趣味性。本文在前人研究的基础上,设定了更适合美国弗吉尼亚州威廉斯堡当地情况的评价细则,对《汉语乐园》学生用书1A和1B的适用情况进行评价。 第一,该教材是否符合美国的语言和文化背景。 第二,该教材是否符合弗吉尼亚州外语学习的要求。 第三,教材内容是否符合教学对象的学习需求和学习能力。 第四,教材中的游戏活动是否适合教学,以及是否适合教学实施者及教学对象。 根据以上四点标准,笔者结合自己的教学实践,从《汉语乐园》1A和1B设定的教学对象、话题设置、交际内容、词汇、练习、拼音、汉字、文化内容、游戏及活动九个方面分析了该教材在当地的适用情况,并从中总结了对该书的修改意见。

Under the growth of globalization, China's economy continues to develop rapidly, and China is integrating into the international community with an enhanced national strength. Currently, as the world's second largest economy, more and more people focus on China and Chinese culture. In response to this, Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms have emerged so that people around the world can start to learn Chinese and about China. In addition, with the growing number of students who learn Chinese in primary and secondary schools, there is an increased demand for Chinese textbooks and language materials. This situation also requires a higher quality of the teaching content. Based on a one-year internship experience of teaching Chinese to children in Williamsburg, Virginia in the United States, a study on the textbook "Chinese Paradise" was performed to see its applicability in the local area. This research will not only provide practical experience and useful information to those teachers who are using or plan to use this textbook, but will also put forward some suggestions for improvement of the "Chinese Paradise." At the same time, this study provides references on the development and research of American children’s Chinese textbooks, and makes a contribution to further promote Chinese teaching in the United States. In this paper, the method of document analysis and practical conclusions is adopted, while referencing previous studies. Based on the evaluation criteria of Chinese textbooks in general, a set of assessment criteria for “Chinese Paradise” student book 1A and 1B is established, which is more suitable for the situation in the local Williamsburg area. The general evaluation principle is whether the textbooks are targeted, practical, scientific, and interesting. Embodied these principles, and combined with the book's own case, the following aspects are studied: First, if the textbook meets the American language and cultural background. Second, if the textbook meets the requirements of Foreign Language Standards of Learning for Virginia Public Schools. Third, if the teaching content meets the learning needs and learning capacity of students. Fourth, if the activities and games in the textbook are suitable for teaching, as well as for the teachers and students. Based on the above four-point standard, with the practical experience, a summarization of the applicable condition and suggestions for revision is developed. Those suggestions come from nine parts: teaching objects, topic settings, communicative content, vocabulary, exercises, pinyin, Chinese characters, cultural content, games and activities. While this paper does provide a thorough study, it also has some limitations worth recognizing.
