Jaco Van Dormael is a famous Belgian film auteur. Although he has only directed four features (Toto le héros 1991, Le huitième jour 1996, Mr. Nobdy 2009, Le tout nouveau testament 2015), every film reached relatively high esthetic standard. Researchers can abstract distinctive characteristics of his personal style from his diachronic creative process. Focusing on the noumenon of four films, with aid from the interdisciplinary knowledge, the thesis combs and analyzes his masterpieces style from the angle of theme and construct. It generalizes and summarizes his magical realism image pattern as well as the model who comes from the combination of art and commerce.
