The depressive tendency group is a group of people who are not clinicallydiagnosed as being depressed, as opposed to having milder symptoms of depression. Inthis budding stage of the disease, appropriate interventions can help them adjust theircognition and emotions in time and restore their happy mood. Self-expression is one ofthe methods of psychological intervention, and studies have shown that self-expressioncan cure depression in two ways: the first way is emotional catharsis, and the secondway is to help individuals reorganize their past and rebuild their cognition. Comparedwith the traditional media era, social media provides more convenience for selfexpression of depressive groups, but there are still problems such as stigmatization ofdepression, privacy leakage, and cyber violence.Translated with DeepL.com (free version)Translated with DeepL.com (freeversion)The theory of rational behavior and the theory of privacy algorithms proposethat whether an individual engages in self-representation is informed by his or hercalculation of benefits and risks. Individuals act when the benefits outweigh the risks, and they do not act when the risks outweigh the benefits. And the Theory of PlannedBehavior reveals that people take certain actions based on rationality. There is a lot ofresearch on the calculation of gains and losses of social media self-representation in thegeneral population, but there is a lack of examination of the niche group of depressivetendencies. Some studies have shown that depressed people have low sensitivity topositive and negative emotions and have functional deficits in social reward processingand risk perception. Whether the online self-representation behavior of the depressivetendency group is influenced by the gain/loss framework is of unknown nature. Thus, this paper will analyze two questions: 1. Do media-perceived benefits andABSTRACTIVmedia-perceived risks affect the online self-exposure behavior of the depressivetendency group? 2. How do media-perceived benefits and risks affect self-exposurebehavior by influencing the main framework parts of the Theory of Planned Behavior(attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control)? In this way, we canbetter understand the pathways of online disclosure behaviors of this group, and help toprovide a more inclusive disclosure environment for the depressive tendency group interms of science popularization and publicity encouragement. To address the above issues, this paper adopts the method of questionnaire survey, taking media perceived benefits, media perceived risks and attitudes of the theory ofplanned behavior, descriptive norms, injunctive norms, perceived behavioral control asindependent variables, and self-expressive behaviors of the group of depressivetendencies as the dependent variable, and doing the corresponding data analysis. 403valid questionnaires were collected and analyzed for correlation, regression, andmediated effects through the process plug-in of SPSS27.It was found that 1. media-perceived benefits and media-perceived risks directlyaffect the online self-representation behavior of depressive tendency groups. 2.Attitudes, descriptive norms, and injunctive norms mediate the relationship betweenperceived media gains and online self-representation behavior. 3. Attitudes, injunctivenorms, and perceived behavioral control mediate between media-perceived risk andonline self-representation behavior. This study reveals several paths that influence the online self-representationbehavior of depressive tendency groups, which not only makes targeted theoreticaladditions to the empirical research on online self-representation of depressive tendencygroups in China, but also has certain help on how the construction of mental health inChina can be translated into practice. In the future, we can examine the online selfrepresentation behavior of the depressed group in the field of communication andpsychology.
