In recent years, the U.S. Supreme Court has frequently become the focus of public opinion for overturning many significant cases involving political issues, bringing the issue of judicial politicization to the forefront. Traditionally, academic recognition of its judicial politicization has remained at the stance level, primarily based on the judicial philosophy of the judges. This article uses the Chiafalo v. Washington (the Chiafalo in short) in 2020 as an example to conduct a more comprehensive discussion on the issue of judicial politicization. The Chiafalo concerns the discretionary power of electors in the U.S. presidential election. Although the case resulted in a unanimous decision, the article finds from the differing opinions and judicial philosophy of the judges that there is a direction for further development in the extent of judicial politicization in the United States, namely the shift from stance-based adjudication to interest-based adjudication. By reviewing the historical expansion of the U.S. Supreme Court's power, the article traces the evolution of judicial politicization of the court and emphasizes that in the current context of political polarization, the consequences of judicial politicization have become fully apparent. Furthermore, maintaining judicial fairness and impartiality is particularly important in the current political environment in the United States.
