外文摘要:

Teachers work with humans and educate the younger generation, and their emotions may possibly influence the development and complement of the students. To be more specific, teachers’ emotions play a vitally important role in the class atmosphere and students’ learning efficiency. They need to regulate their emotions to help the teaching procedure go on smoothly and help themselves better engage in their work. This paper aims to use a mixed-methods approach which involves both quantitative and qualitative data sources to find out the emotional labor and work engagement levels of the teachers and find the relationship between the two variables. The Emotional Labor Questionnaire and the Work Engagement Scale were used to collect quantitative data from 52 high school English teachers and 3 typical participants were chosen to interview to collect qualitative data. After the linear correlation analysis, regression analysis, and qualitative analysis, it was found that 1) high school English teachers have a relatively high level of emotional labor and they use the strategy of deep acting the most and they use the strategy of surface acting the least. 2) high school English teachers have a high level of work engagement, and they are full of energy, brave and persistent, positive and contributive. 3) Deep acting and genuine acting of the high school English teachers are positively but weakly correlated with their work engagement while surface acting and work engagement of high school English teachers is uncorrelated. More specifically, deep acting and genuine acting have a significant predictive impact on work engagement while surface acting has no significant predictive effect on work engagement.
