英语世界中对莫言的批评、研究不但可以开拓研究莫言作品的新视角，也让我们对英语世界文学理论的特点有进一步认识。文章试图介绍英语世界对莫言的研究现状，分析其中呈现的规律和特点。首先将介绍英语世界目前对莫言的研究结论，认为自19世纪90年代以来，英语世界的莫言研究可以大致归为三类:对莫言作品的先锋文学特征的验证，对寻根主题、身体表达、作品与历史政治的关系等方面的解读，和对莫言作品与“五四”文学的关系研究。英语世界的莫言研究从横向上显示出研究者们对异己文化的兴趣和对中国形象的混沌不清的印象，纵向上能看出研究趋势逐渐呈现多元化。但是，这些研究并没有从全球化的角度来思考，所以英语世界对莫言的研究仍有开拓的空间。

The introduction of the studies of Mo Yan 's fiction in English world, not only help us to know more about the Mo Yan's work,but also offer us a special angle on the feature of the criticism theories of the west.The studies can be classified into three types through which they focus on: inspection of the character of avant-garde, exploration of the theme in Mo Yan's fiction,and study the character of Mo Yan'work as the successor and developer of the May Fourth Literary legacy.Comparison orthogonally, the studies show the interest in the outsider culture and the fuzzy impression of Chain reality. And the tendency of those studies turns to be more and more diversified
