"Kindertransport" was a rescue operation which was authorized by British government to transfer children from Nazi Germany to Britain for refuge by train, plane and ship with the help of private organizations and individuals. The rescue operation began on the Kristallnacht from Nov. 9 to Nov. 10, 1938 when the Nazis massively arrested and persecuted the Jews, and ended on the outbreak of the Second World War on Sept. 1, 1939. The rescue saved about 10,000 children under the age of 17 in Nazi Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia and so on, of which Jewish children accounted for about 90%. The rescue operation offered an opportunity for Jewish children to survive and avoid the tragic fate of the Holocaust. Thus, these children were always grateful for the good deeds and the love from British government and people. However, it cannot be ignored that the Jewish children often endured the huge psychological pain of staying away from their parents when they entered the strange country alone. Besides, the subsequent life in unfamiliar adopted families also made them experience a great cultural shock. What’s worse, they were regarded as "enemy aliens", and then they were detained and even exiled by the British government after the outbreak of World War II, which made their hearts seriously traumatized. Even after the war, they were still nightmare-ridden and miserable in their lifetime. By analyzing the memoirs of Jewish children, a clearer understanding of their early psychological conditions and social adaptation could be learned. Besides, a deeper perception of the trauma and misfortunes suffered by German Jewish children during the Nazi rule could also be obtained. From the perspective of daily life of Jewish children, a miserable history could be reconstructed.
