在乾嘉荀学的基础上和西方思想的冲击下,夹杂着对儒学生命的拯救与对西方思想的向往,近现代对荀学子思想研究的形式从以章句注疏为主发展到基于问题为主的观念诠释,其诠释的范围由主要的以孟释荀转变为与诸子学比较以及与西方思想理论的比较诠释。在研究形式与研究方法改变的同时,学者们对荀子思想内容的研究也逐渐的深入。就是说,近现代荀学为当代学者系统研究荀子思想提供了广阔的问题域和方法论启示,从而为全面系统地理解荀子思想奠定了基础。
目前学界的近现代荀学研究,或者以人物为线索,或者以思潮为线索,或者以时间阶段为线索,为本文以荀子主要思想观念为切入点进行研究奠定了基础。本文以近现代学者诠释的正名思想、天人观、心性论、礼法观、礼论和“法后王”等为基础,并结合《荀子》文本中的主要思想进行整理并建构而成。通过将此时期学者对荀子主要思想之诠释的整理,试图探寻荀子思想观念之间的内在联系以及荀学基本问题。
在西方逻辑学等思想的影响下和学者对方法论关注的情况下,近现代很多学者注意到了荀子正名思想,将其诠释为与逻辑学、认识论相关的名学,挖掘出了名实关系、制名之原则等对于荀学思想本身体系的重要性,引发了后来学者对荀子思想的更多关注。因为荀子正名思想不仅是其自身思想体系的基础,也是近现代学者重点从方法论进行关注的问题之一,所以本文首先论述了荀子正名思想。
由于中国近现代的思想解放带来的对人的关注和对西方的科学知识的重视,荀子强调人的地位的天人观和注重心知的心性论受到了诠释者们的关注。近现代大部分学者诠释了荀子“制天命而用之”的思想,也有学者注意到了荀子提出“制天命而用之”的前提是人要“明于天人之分”,划清天与人之间的界限。清楚明白人自身的职责和能力范围和荀子的心性论和人观联系在一起。在清代气论和西方人文主义的影响下,近现代学者在对荀子的心性论诠释时将“心”、“性”和人的本质区别开来。其中,有从本能、原动力等方面对性的论述,有从知觉、自由意志、原初状态等对心的阐发。针对人的观念,近现代学者提出了荀子对于人的认知的特别之处是其提出了人具有社会性和人有辨有义能群等方面。可以说,荀子的心性观念以及对人的整体认知和其礼论思想有关。
本文的下半部分主要是论述近现代学者对荀子之礼论及其相关思想中的礼法观、“法后王”等的诠释。首先是近现代学者对荀子之礼法观的诠释。荀子的礼法观在近现代受到人们的注意,既是由于中国古代意识形态的解体,也是受到了结合西方思想诠释原始法家的新法家的出现等因素的影响。在荀子礼法观中,君主处于核心地位,所以,荀子的尊君思想在近现代也备受关注。有的思想家认为荀子的尊君思想和旧社会的君主专制有密切关系,对其进行了批判;而有的学者从儒家的立场出发,认为荀子尊君的前提是君主为民服务的职责和善群的能力。对礼法观的批判和关注,在一定程度上引起了学者们对荀子礼论思想的系统研究。在西方真理观和规律等观念的影响下,有的学者将荀子的道和礼联系起来,论述荀子之礼的客观性,并通过对“礼之三本”的论述,阐发荀子之礼对于情感欲望的转化和整体生命的提升作用,从而使人们对荀子之礼有了较为全面客观的分析。虽然,近现代从道的高度对荀子之礼进行的论证不多,但却发现了系统论证荀子之礼的新视角。与从道的视角论述荀子之礼之理论性的方面不同,在西方进化史观和近现代求治求变的需求下,荀子“法后王”主要体现的是荀子之礼如何在现实的社会运作中起到积极的建构和转化作用。虽然“法后王”思想不像近现代有的学者所认为的是进化的历史观,但是人们对法后王的诠释本身却引发了人们去关注“法后王”背后蕴含的变化观念和制度因素对于礼义之道的重要性。所以,对于荀子历史观的判读,需和荀子对道的论述结合。荀子认为道具有的体常而尽变的特征,于是人们对道的认识需要从较为详备的礼义制度等文物方面进行考察,并在考察的基础上建构起有利于社会稳定和发展的儒家价值秩序。
质言之,荀学思想观念之所以能够被近现代学者通过结合西方思想和中国古代思想诠释的形式中得以不断阐发,在于其不仅折射出了近现代学人心中的时代问题和价值指向,更重要的是荀子思想本身具有综合性和开放性。

On the basis of the theory of Xunzi in Qian-jia and the impact of Western thought, mixed with the salvation of Confucian life and the yearning for Western thought, The research form of Xun scholars' thoughts in modern times has evolved from mainly commenting on chapters and sentences to conceptual interpretation based on problems. While the research form and method changed, scholars gradually deepened Xunzi's ideological content. In other words, Xunzi in modern times provides contemporary scholars with a broad problem domain and methodological implications for systematic research on Xunzi's thought, thus laying a foundation for a comprehensive and systematic understanding of Xunzi's thought.
At present, Research on Modern Xunzi Studies in the academic world have either used characters as clues, thought trends as clues, or time stages as clues, which has laid the foundation for the study of Xunzi's main ideas as an entry point. This article is based on the concepts of zheng ming正名, the concept of tian and ren天人, the theory of xin and xing心性, the concept of li礼 and fa法,the theory of Dao and li礼, and the concept of fa houwang法后王interpreted by modern scholars. By sorting out the interpretations of Xunzi's main ideas by scholars in this period, I tried to explore the internal connection between Xunzi's own ideas and the basic problems in Xunzi's thought.
Under the influence of western logic and modern scholars' attention to methodology, many scholars in modern times have noticed Xunzi's idea of zheng ming, interpreted it as a nameology related to logic and epistemology, and discovered the relationship between name and reality , The principle of making names, etc.Since then it has aroused more scholars' attention to Xun Zi's thought. Because Xunzi's idea of zheng ming is not only the foundation of its own ideological system, but also one of the issues that modern scholars focus on from methodology, so the first chapter of this article discusses Xunzi's idea of zheng ming.
Due to the attention paid to mankind and the scientific knowledge of the West brought by the emancipation of thought in modern China, Xunzi's view of tian and ren, which emphasizes the status of mankind and the mind-mind theory that focuses on the human mind, have received the attention of interpreters. Most scholars in modern times have interpreted Xunzi's idea of "using tailor tian ming天命 and use it", and some scholars have noticed that Xunzi's premise of " using tailor tian ming and use it " is that people must "understand the division of tian and ren" and distinguish the boundaries between tian and ren. Clearly understand that the scope of one ’s own responsibilities and abilities is linked to Xunzi ’s theory of xin 心and xing性. On the basis of the influence of Qi theory in the Qing Dynasty and Western humanism, modern scholars have distinguished "xin", "xing" and the nature of man in the interpretation of Xunzi's theory. Among them, there are expositions of xing from instincts, motive powers, etc., and elucidation of xin from perception, free will, original state, etc. In view of the concept of people, modern scholars have proposed that Xunzi's cognition of ren is special in that it suggests that people have sociality and that people can achieve group harmony through separate aspects. It can be said that Xunzi's concept of xin and xing and his overall cognition of ren are related to his li礼 thought.
The second half of this article mainly discusses modern scholars' interpretation of Xunzi's li and its related ideology and fa, as well as the thought of "fa houwang". The first is the modern scholars' interpretation of Xunzi's view of li and fa. Xunzi's view of li and fa has attracted people's attention in modern times, not only because of the disintegration of ancient Chinese ideology, but also because of the emergence of new legalists who interpreted the original legalists in combination with Western thought. In Xunzi's view of li and fa, the monarch is at the core. Xunzi's thought of respecting the monarch has also received much attention in modern times. Some thinkers believed that Xunzi ’s thought of respecting the monarch was closely related to the monarchy of the old society, then criticized it; while some scholars proceeded from the standpoint of Confucianism and believed that the prerequisite for Xunzi to respect the monarchy was the duty and goodness of the monarch to serve the people . Criticism and attention to the view of li and fa, to a certain extent, have caused scholars to systematically study Xunzi's thought of li. Under the influence of the Western view of truth and the concept of law, some scholars have linked Xunzi's Dao and li to discuss the objectivity and importance of Xunzi's li, and explaine that Xunzi's li is the transformation of emotional desire and the improvement of the overall life, so that people have a comprehensive and objective analysis of Xunzi's li. Although there are not many demonstrations of Xunzi's li from the perspective of Taoism in modern times, they have found a new perspective of systematically demonstrating Xunzi's li. Different from discussing the theoretical aspects of Xunzi's li from the perspective of Dao, Xunzi's "fa houwang" mainly embodies how Xunzi's li works in a realistic society under the needs of Western evolutionary history and modern times,then plays an active role in construction and transformation.
Although the idea of "fa houwang" is not like the historical view of evolution that some scholars believe in modern times, its interpretation has caused people to pay attention to the changing concepts and institutional factors behind it. Therefore, the interpretation of Xunzi's view of history needs to be combined with Xunzi's exposition of Dao. Xunzi believes that Dao has the characteristics that the noumenon is constant but the performance of the noumenon is constantly changing, so people ’s knowledge of Dao needs to be investigated from the more detailed li system and other cultural relics, and on the basis of the investigation, it is conducive to social stability and Confucian value order of development.
To put it bluntly, the reason why Xunxue's ideology can be continuously elucidated by modern scholars through the combination of Western thought and ancient Chinese thought is that it not only reflects the problems of the times and the value orientation of modern scholars, What is important is that Xunzi's thought is comprehensive and open.
