As Charlemagne's heir, the reign of Louis the Pious started with the powerful country, but ended up with civil war, division and decline. Therefore, he has different historical image in different historical narratives constructed by different academic paradigms and historical documents. By summarizing the academic history, we can see that the existing historical narratives mainly include This paper can be divided into the following sections. The first part is a review of the historiography of Louis the Pious and several mainstream historical narratives describing his rule which formed in this historiography. The second part, from the perspective of conceptual history, analyzes and discusses the original meaning and etymology of "ecclesia" and "publicus" and theirspecific connotation changes in this transition period. And then to grasp the internal logic of this historical narrative.
