Zhuangzi, as a representative of pursuing spiritual freedom, has always left a deep impression on people with his free and unrestrained image. However, by delving into the text of the "Zhuangzi," we can discover that he is not pursuing spiritual freedom and transcendence outside of the world, but rather aims to open up a path of spiritual liberation from his profound experience of real-life situations. He deeply feels that everyone who exists in the world is inevitably subject to the influence of "ming", which constitutes the limit of human life. Although the recognition of the inescapable "ming" is ancient, no one can express the helpless essence of life like Zhuangzi. The inevitability of "ming" in life, including the necessary "ming" of life and death, the natural "ming" of one's nature, the inevitable "ming" of time, and the accidental "ming" of luck, concerns the entire individual life process and constitutes Zhuangzi's rich understanding of "ming."

Only by "knowing one's fate" can one know how to "establish oneself in the world." The ultimate value pursuit of Zhuangzi is the establishment of the subject's survival in society. Therefore, the emphasis on the existence of "ming" is not to plunge people into the quagmire of suffering, but to seek a way to break through the difficulties of life based on facing them directly, that is, the cultivation that Zhuangzi has done to deal with "ming." Through spiritual practices such as "the unity of life and death", "man has no permanent emotions", "uselessness is the use", and "yield to things", he resists "ming" and breaks through all obstacles in the realm of the spirit, achieving peace and freedom in the realm of life. Therefore, "knowing one's fate" is only the starting point, "establishing oneself in the world" is the path, and "reaching one's fate" is the ultimate goal.

This article aims to reveal the inescapable nature of "ming" in the original essence of life through an analysis of Zhuangzi's philosophy of fate. However, this does not constitute the dissolution of the meaning and value of individual existence, but rather confirms the survival of "self" in the acknowledgement and transcendence of "ming," demonstrating the uniqueness of "self." This undoubtedly has a spiritual comforting effect on people who are deeply trapped in the emptiness and difficulties of life.
