抗战时期，随着文化主力的内迁，日伪政权机器的力量的强势介入，沦陷区的文化形态发生了很大的变化。本文以华北沦陷区为例，以新发现的大批原始资料为依托，对殖民文化从“物质—精神观念—行为”层层剖析，试图比较客观地清理日本殖民者对华北物质文化载体的破坏，殖民文化的内在结构、传播过程及效果。第一，近代以来，日本为了称霸亚洲，用武海外，一直对华北地区的文化资源十分垂涎，为了达到全面亡华改换华夏文化主体的罪恶目的，日本殖民者在对华北实施军事进攻，武装占领之余，也对华北的物质文化极尽劫掠摧残之能事。华北地区的各级学校、科研机构、出版社、图书馆、博物馆、书局等各类文化机构及图书典籍，文物遗产，古建筑、遗迹等的损失罄竹难书。第二，在殖民文化思想之架构上，日伪之文化建构围绕如何处理华北地区沦陷时所存在的古今中外的各个文化要素及他们之间的关系并使之组合成为一个符合逻辑的有机的文化整体而进行的。民族文化方面，在恶意吸纳、篡改传统儒家思想的基础上形成新民主义理论；为了改造民众的历史记忆，对古代中日关系史进行了重新的发掘，其中包括别有用心地大力发掘、夸大甚至歪曲那些当时被“遗忘”的古代中日交好的史实，突出古代日本的独立地位，歪曲明代日本侵扰中国的事件。对于近代以来日本侵华的诸种事实，如甲午中日战争、八国联军侵华、日俄战争、“二十一条”、济南惨案、“九一八”事变，则进行了明目张胆大肆的歪曲与美化。同时还极力丑化英美苏及国共两党的历史形象。另外，还通过炮制超民族主义、鼓吹超国家观，建构东亚认同的手段，在观念意识上破坏原有的民族国家观。外来文化方面，沦陷区日伪对于资本主义文化和马克思主义采取了简单排斥的态度，认为资本主义文化无论在理论上还是在现实的社会生活实践上都出现了不可克服的矛盾，因此必须用一种更加公正合理的东方固有文化来代替它；将马克思主义看做是于社会发展毫无价值的理论，予以全盘否定；在对二者进行否定的同时，对于以先进生产力为基础的自然科学和技术科学则持肯定态度。同时，对于宗主国日本的文化则采取了以偏概全的全盘美化的态度。第三，为了将殖民文化思想向社会各个领域进行全面的渗透，日伪在华北沦陷区不仅设置了一些专门的文化机构，还通过严密控制和扶植利用学校教育、新闻出版等传播媒介，直接控制人们的宗教信仰，恢复传统礼教操控和规范人们的日常行为规范等方式和手段去实施殖民文化的社会化，以期在沦陷区社会中促成殖民文化意识的形成。第四，抗日战争不仅是中日之间的一场政治、军事、经济的较量，同时也是一场文化上的较量。针对日伪的反动谬论，为了澄清事实，维护民族文化的纯洁，以国共两党及中间人士在内的广大爱国志士纷纷著书立说据理力争，针锋相对地对日伪殖民文化思想进行了批判，这些批判在内容上几乎涉及日伪殖民文化的方方面面，方式上或出于爱国主义的义愤揭露日本侵略者的阴毒用心，痛斥汉奸卖国的无耻行径，或出于科学的治学态度进行学理上的剖析与论证。这对于揭露日伪的文化阴谋，纠正民众认识，遏制了法西斯毒素在中国的蔓延，增强民族自信心和凝聚力取得抗战胜利发挥了重要的作用。总之，华北沦陷区日伪殖民文化就是日本殖民者在军事征服、武装占领的基础上，占据统治地位的日本殖民者及其所扶植的傀儡政权创造出的一套符合殖民者利益的思想体系。它打着恢复以儒家文化为主体的传统文化的幌子，篡改民众的历史意识、民族国家意识，片面排斥资本主义文化与马克思主义，而向日本文化单方面的趋同归附。这种文化在民族性上遭到异化扭曲，缺乏自己的独立性与主体性；时代性上打上殖民烙印，受到日本大和文化的局限，被日本自认为优秀的文化所统率；同时还具有强烈的泛政治化色彩；日本殖民者所扶植的汉奸在文化的炮制上发挥了重要作用。在日伪的狂轰滥炸之下，其从短时间内也起到了一些效果。但由于文化建构本身存在不可克服的内在矛盾，从长远来看难期成功，随着日本殖民者的溃败，殖民文化最终被扫入历史的垃圾堆。
