This study aims to explore the phenomenon of rural top students choosing schools to study in cities through score selection and relationship selection during the compulsory education stage. Rural top students, with the belief of "going out", have received strong support from their families and active absorption of excellent students by urban schools, thus successfully opening up a path of progressive learning. Using a narrative research strategy, this article analyzes the learning experiences of these top students in urban educational environments and finds that although they hold a consistent value judgment on the choice of school, they have different emotional experiences with different tones. So, where did differentiation come from? The main reasons for their experience differentiation are the entry methods and entry costs, the size of survival pressure, differences in the level of collective integration, and differences in individual interpretations of the surrounding world. The study also revealed the complexity behind "running away", and behind expanding their horizons and opening up more possibilities, there is the shadow of harvest - they are like ripened sour fruits, experiencing the "unbearable weight of life", which is the challenge and dilemma they encounter in the pursuit of better educational opportunities. They are the lucky ones in this "transplant adventure", successfully achieving the "thrilling leap" of the high school entrance examination and successfully "going out". In this sense, they are very similar to what Richard Hogart called "scholarship boys". For some of them, as time goes by, a sense of loss of being "floating without roots" begins to emerge, and "homesickness" begins to erupt, prompting them to reflect and transcend their actions and beliefs of "going out" at a deeper level. |
