《浮士德博士的悲剧》是马洛最著名的戏剧作品之一，讲述了浮士德博士同魔鬼交易的故事。其中所包含的喜剧性内容常被认为质量低劣，且破坏悲剧的完整性，因此受到批判。在精读《浮士德博士》戏本（1616年的B版本）的基础上，本文试论证喜剧性内容不但无害，而且在对悲剧主题的塑造和提升中大有作为。首先，喜剧性内容揭示了浮士德的致命交易并不光荣，且是在浮士德对其没有真正的认识的情况下进行的，然而从后果上看，它的确又是严肃的，的确将他拖入永恒的折磨；另外，浮士德性格的缺陷和魅力在喜剧性内容中得到了充分的展示，引人同情；最后，喜剧性内容通过干扰注意力创造出一种安全的幻象，使得结尾的悲剧来得更加突然、猛烈，增强悲剧效果。

The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus is one of Christopher Marlowe’s best-known plays which tells a story about Doctor Faustus’s trade with the devil. The comic content in it is often criticized for both its own weakness and its destruction on the wholeness of the play. Based on a close reading of the B-text (the 1616 version) of Doctor Faustus, this thesis argues that the comic content does not ruin the play; by the contrast, it helps to shape the tragic theme and to enhance it. Firstly, it reveals that Faustus’s fatal trade is not glorious and is made without full consciousness, yet its seriousness comes from the consequence of eternal torment alone; secondly, it helps displayed Faustus’s full character of flaws and charms, and arouse sympathy for him; lastly, it distracts attention and creates a safe illusion, which enhance the tragic effect in the end.
