In today's society, with ever-increasing pressures and challenges, effectively regulating emotions and behaviors to reduce anxiety and procrastination and achieve personal goals has become a widely discussed issue. Although research has explored the relationship between anxiety and procrastination, studies focusing on state anxiety, behavioral procrastination, and their moderating variables are still insufficient. This study aims to investigate how success expectations moderate the relationship between state anxiety and behavioral procrastination, and to examine the effects of trait anxiety and procrastination tendencies. The study included 34 students engaged in their final project, who participated in a week-long daily survey, reporting their emotional states and project procrastination each day. Using multilevel logistic regression to analyze this experience sampling data, the results indicate that success expectations play a crucial moderating role in the relationship between state anxiety and behavioral procrastination(B=0.618,p=0.048). Specifically, when success expectations are low, state anxiety positively predicts behavioral procrastination; however, when success expectations are high, there is no significant association between the two. Additionally, the study found that the impact of trait anxiety on behavioral procrastination was not significant, whereas there was a positive correlation between procrastination tendencies and behavioral procrastination. These findings highlight the important role of success expectations in understanding the relationship between procrastination and anxiety, and offer new perspectives for optimizing individual self-regulation strategies. |
