Domestic violence is one of the most serious social problems in society. Adverse childhood experiences have long-term negative effects on children's physical and mental development and interpersonal development. This study using qualitative research method, based on 2013 "masculinity and prevent gender violence" project and 2018 "Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen migrant women gender violence investigation" project to make the data collection, the project team authorized under the premise of the research data of two projects for secondary screening, there are 11 respondents violence against women mentioned adverse childhood experiences, 13 violence against women is not mentioned, this study selects only 11 has adverse childhood experiences violence against women as the research object. The study analyzed the adverse childhood experiences of battered women and their interpretation to understand how battered women described their adverse childhood experiences, and to explore the relationship between adverse childhood experiences of battered women and intimate relationship violence in adulthood. The study found that the adverse childhood experiences experienced by abused women were diverse, and that most of their families of origin followed traditional Chinese gender norms, with men dominating the family. Violent women's childhood experiences with violence affect their interpretation of violence. Ignoring the experience makes abused women feel inferior or sensitive, and when they don't get the attention of their families, they choose the people they trust as "significant others" to meet their emotional needs in childhood. Different from western countries, most battered women have a "Chinese-style" interpretation of the experience of child abuse, which is considered as a common way of education. Even though some battered women think it is unreasonable and incomprehensible, they do not think corporal punishment equals to abuse. The different interpretations of violence and child abuse experienced by abused women continue in their adult intimate relationships and influence their choice of coping strategies in the face of adult intimate relationship violence. Finally, this study suggests that the study of adverse childhood experiences in abused women may provide a new perspective for social workers involved in domestic violence cases.
