Flying Carpet is a masterpiece of “Fertillia Series”, a series of allegorical writings about the city, which is considered to be one of the most significant works of Xixi. By refining and analyzing the historical things of Hong Kong from the text, a conclusion can be reached that Xixi focused on the daily life of the public. By showing the detailed changes in all aspects of the citizens’ life, the writer has unveiled the mystery of Hong Kong’s history. Xixi did not expose the darkness of history directly, but profiled the conflicts and struggles with the reactions of ordinary citizens to changes in life, reflecting a distinct concern for people’s daily life. Different from traditional realistic writers, Xixi has adapted the writing strategy named “Fairy Realism”, which has helped to make the story of Hong Kong become allegorical. By using the unique writing strategy, Xixi has created a fantasy world contrasting with the real experience. By doing so, Xixi not only embodied the concern for Hong Kong’s history and reality, but also injected the insight of the entire urban civilization into the novel. As a result, the story of “Fertillia” was able to go beyond an ordinary portrayal of Hong Kong and became a universal allegory of urban cities.
