1931年，伴随日本侵略地加深，国家命运开始成为青年挥之不去的一个牵挂。三十年代，青年在个人职业、思想等方面也面临困境。内外交困，而国家与个人却似乎都难寻光明出路。青年的烦闷、不满、对立情绪日益发酵，与国民党政府日渐疏离，学潮频发。国民党政府对抗日救亡运动地血腥镇压与对青年学子地残酷禁锢使得青年学生内部分化，部分青年甚至走上与政府相对立的革命道路。这一切极大地动摇了国民党政权政治威信与执政之基。《国闻周报》承袭浓厚文人之风，他们对青年学子有着与生俱来的关注，因此，《国闻周报》迅速跟进了对青年问题的报道。另一方面，《国闻周报》凭借对“九一八”事变的报道而声名鹊起，它对民族危亡问题更是异常敏感。因此，纵观1931-1937年间《国闻周报》对青年问题的报道与评论，不难发现，《国闻周报》在探讨青年问题时着力将其置于当时国难大背景下加以考量。《国闻周报》希望将青年个人出路与国家出路结合起来，在帮助青年解决个人出路问题同时推动政府加强对教育、政治、社会地改造，最终实现抗日救亡、民族复兴的终极目标。

With the deepening of Japan’s invasion, the nation’s destiny had been more and more closely related to the youth. During the 1930s, in which they were beset with troubles internally and externally, the youth ran into trouble, and didn’t know how to make career planning for themselves. There was hardly any bright future for individuals and the nation. The worried, discontented and contrasting feeling of youth was increasingly serious. It made youth alienate from the Kuomintang government and organize frequent student strikes. Youth were polarized by the bloody suppression of The Anti-Japanese National Salvation Movement and the brutal confinement of young students by The Kuomintang government. Some young people even joined the revolutionary organization that was the government’s opposition. All these greatly shook the political prestige and power base of the Kuomintang regime.Guo Wen Weekly inherited the conduct of classical and traditional culture. It paid close attention to the young students since its foundation. Therefore, Guo Wen Weekly, rapidly followed up on youth issues reports. On the other hand, it rose to fame by virtue of the “September 18th Incident” reports. It was even unusually sensitive when the nation's existence was in peril. Throughout the reports and comments on the youth of Guo Wen Weekly from 1931 to 1937, it’s not difficult to find Guo Wen Weekly focused on exploring youth issues in the background of National calamity. Guo Wen Weekly combined youth personal way out with the country’s way out, while helping young people to solve the problem of personal way out to promote the Government to strengthen the transformation of education, politics, society, and eventually find the way out of the anti-Japanese national salvation and national rejuvenation.
