电影是现代社会最具影响力的媒体之一,受到全世界人民的喜爱。随着全球文化交流的日益频繁,大量的外国电影涌进中国电影市场,使得电影的翻译越来越重要。而片名作为电影不可缺少的部分,它的翻译也十分重要。但是,目前国内对电影片名翻译的研究还远远不够。虽然相关的研究文章不少,但大部分都是作者自己在翻译实践中所得的印象和经验的总结,似乎没有人提出一种令人满意的理论来解释、指导并评价电影片名的翻译。而传统的翻译理论已经越来越无法满足电影片名翻译的需要,为了改善目前国内电影片名翻译混乱的现状,寻找一种系统有效的指导理论变得越来越有必要。 本文以目的论为指导理论,提出电影片名翻译应将重心放在观众上。根据目的论,翻译是一种有目的的行为,翻译过程的最高原则是该翻译活动本身的目的。目的论作为对传统翻译理论的一个重大突破和翻译理论研究的重要补充,为电影片名翻译的理论研究开辟了一个新视角。 在目的论的理论基础上,本文将电影片名的翻译当作一项有目的的活动, 这项活动的最终目的是吸引尽可能多的译语观众去观看电影。为了取得这个目的,电影的译名应能向观众传达必要的信息,给予观众一种审美愉悦,并最终说服观众前去观看电影。因此,译者应让电影译名实现三种基本功能,即信息功能、美感功能和祈使功能。接着在目的论的指导下,作者通过实例分析归纳了英语电影片名的翻译方法,探讨了目的论在英语电影片名翻译中的具体运用。

Film, as one of the most influential mass media products in modern society, is popular with people all around the world. With the increasingly frequent global cultural exchanges, a large number of English films have entered Chinese market, making the translation of films more and more important. The translation of film titles, which are indispensable parts of films, accordingly is very significant. However, the translation of English film titles is yet to be further studied in China. Although many articles have been published on the translation of film titles, most of them turn out to be the writers’ sporadic impressions or experiences in their translation practice, and so far no satisfactory guiding theory has been applied to explain, direct and evaluate the translation of film titles. Translation strategies based on conventional equivalence standards can no longer satisfy the need of film title translation, thus a systematic and effective guiding theory is called for and hopefully it will improve the current situation of film title translation in China. Skopostheorie, an unconventional theory, is adopted as the theoretical base of this thesis and an audience-oriented film title translation approach is highly advocated. According to Skopostheorie, translation is a purposeful activity, and the skopos rule serves as the prime guiding rule in the translation process. As an important complement to translation studies, Skopostheorie has given a new perspective to the study of film title translation. Based on Skopostheorie, this thesis treats film title translation as a purposeful activity, whose main goal is to attract the target language audience to see the film. In order to realize the skopos of film title translation, the translated film titles should be able to offer the audience some information about the film, give them aesthetic pleasure and ultimately persuade them to see the film. Thus the translator is required to fulfill three functions in his target translation, namely the informative function, the aesthetic function, and the vocative functions. Then the author discusses the application of Skopostheorie in English film title translation. Several translation methods are introduced and analyzed with rich examples.
