In recent years, the number of adolescents with Internet addiction has been increasing year by year. Internet addiction seriously affects the physical and mental health of adolescents, so it is necessary to pay attention to adolescents' Internet addiction. Among the many factors influencing Internet addiction, parent-child attachment has received much attention, but less attention has been paid to the mechanisms of how parent-child attachment affects Internet addiction. Parent-child attachment can influence adolescent Internet addiction through a variety of factors, with gratitude being an important factor, as a positive emotion that can construct interpersonal resources for adolescents, thereby reducing the risk of Internet addiction. This study therefore aims to explore the relationship between parent-child attachment, gratitude and Internet addiction to provide an intervention perspective for social work interventions on adolescent Internet addiction and to provide some guidance for the development of intervention programmes.

In this paper, a questionnaire survey was conducted on 2419 rural junior high school students, using the Intimacy Experience-Relationship Structure Scale, the Gratitude Questionnaire and the Internet Addiction Test to measure the variables, describe the characteristics of parent-child attachment, gratitude and Internet addiction among junior high school students, explore the relationship between parent-child attachment and Internet addiction, and the mediating role of gratitude in the relationship between parent-child attachment and Internet addiction. addiction, and the mediating role of gratitude in the relationship between parent-child attachment and Internet addiction. The main findings of the study are as follows.

Firstly, there are demographic differences in parent-child attachment, gratitude and internet addiction among rural junior high school students, as shown by (1) in terms of parent-child attachment, girls, students with both parents at home, students with better family economic status, students with more educated parents, higher levels of parent-child trust dependency, and lower levels of parent-child avoidance anxiety among students with better family economic status; junior high school students have lower levels of parent-child trust dependency and The degree of parent-child avoidance anxiety was higher among junior students. (2) In terms of gratitude, the level of gratitude was higher among female students, first-year students, students with only their fathers at home, and students from better-off families. (3) In terms of Internet addiction, the level of Internet addiction was higher among students whose families were economically poor and students whose mothers were less educated; there was no significant difference in the level of Internet addiction among junior high school students in terms of gender, stay-at-home situation, grade level, and father's education level.

Secondly, parent-child trust dependence in parent-child attachment could significantly and negatively predict adolescent Internet addiction, and parent-child avoidance anxiety could significantly and positively predict adolescent Internet addiction.

Third, gratitude partially mediated the relationship between parent-child attachment and Internet addiction among rural junior high school students, i.e., parent-child attachment reduced the risk of adolescent Internet addiction by increasing the level of gratitude.

Based on the findings of the study, this paper proposes social work recommendations that build on existing intervention methods for Internet addiction and bring into play the strengths of social workers; provide family-centred and needs-based case services; and conduct multi-type groups.
