The free energy for homogeneous and inhomogeneous gels is given
based on thermodynamics, which further gives stress tensor and
mechanical equilibrium condition by equilibrium theorem. Continuum
mechanical model is proposed for dynamical processes in gels that
involve the elastic deformation and solvent permeation by Masao Doi.
Two models are derived by simplifying the original dynamical
model,which are separately applied to discuss the swelling of
gels--solvent permeation causes deformation, and numerical
simulation and analysis are also presented.
