As a key antecedent of organizational performance, employee creativity has gained a lot of focus from organizational researchers in the last thirty years. However, few research paid attention to the influence of family life on employee creativity. The present study proposed that employees are able to gain psychological resource from creative parent-child interaction, which benefits their creative process engagement at work.

In study 1, we developed Family Interaction Assessment to assess the frequency of different kinds of parent-child interaction at home under Chinese cultural background. In study 2, we explored the effect of parent-child interaction at home on creative process engagement at work. We found that both learning and creative parent-child interaction could significantly increase parents’ creative process engagement in organization. And the effect of creative parent-child interaction on creative process engagement was moderated by participants’ type of regulatory focus. Specifically, for those who high in promote focus or low in prevent focus, creative parent-child interaction could better benefit their creative performance at work.
