安徽地区在唐代整体的林木资源十分丰富，《全唐诗》中描写宣、歙、庐、濠等州的自然风光的诗句不胜枚举，从诗文中可以看出自然生长的林木资源是远远多于人工种植的林木的，而林木分类的差异在很大程度上影响了其利用方式，自然林的覆盖范围巨大所以利用的范围更广，方式更多样，相对来说人工种植的树木的需求具有针对性，因而比较狭隘。对丰富的森林资源的需求推动了相关产业的发展，柴薪在煤炭未能普及之前作为百姓日常以及部分手工行业如窑烧及冶铸等行业主要的燃料和原料，同时松、杉、楠、樟等建筑用材大量用于造船和建筑行业，这些都对推动安徽地区唐代的经济发展具有非常重要的意义，但是大量无节制的采伐利用森林资源会对当地的自然环境造成不可逆的损害，为后人敲响了警钟，若想要可持续发展必须要尊重自然，坚持“天人合一”的林业发展思路。
