清末，以清政府为首的封建势力强力压制和摧残近代资产阶级报刊。在这种情况下，由于澳门具有较为宽松的政治条件?思想开放的地缘优势以及有当地媒介的庇护，集齐天时?地利?人和的三大优势，资产阶级的革命派和维新派都曾在澳门办报刊。1893年《镜海丛报》在澳门出版，是近代最早的与革命派相关的报刊。1897年，维新派的重要宣传刊物《知新报》也在澳门出版。澳门一度成为早期资产阶级的舆论阵地，广泛传播了资产阶级政治思想。

At the end of the Qing Dynasty, the feudal forces headed by the Qing government relentlessly oppressed and smothered the bourgeois press. Despite the harsh circumstances, Chinese bourgeois revolutionists and reformers managed to establish their own press in Macao owing to the favorable conditions of the liberal politics, outward-looking geographical location, and natural protection from the local press in Macao. In 1893, Ching Hai Tsung Pao was published in Macao, which was the earliest paper run by the bourgeois revolutionists. In 1897, Zhi Xin Bao, bourgeois reformers’ paper for political propaganda, was published in Macao. For a time, Macao became a battlefield of public opinions for early bourgeoisie in China and harbored the extensive promotion of their political ideologies.
