本英汉翻译项目报告以英国 Routledge 出版社出版的《当代日本文化百科全书》（Encyclopedia of Contemporary Japanese Culture）一书为研究文本。该书为日本科普类读物，科普书籍的特点是使用精确和简明的话语，全面但又简洁地论述了有关各个方面的、或是某个专门行业领域发展的来龙去脉，包括古今的对比、中外的对比，涉及到的都是某些事情的实际状况、定义和相关的理论知识，并以信息的真实性和清晰性为特点。此外，该书为百科全书，涵盖了日本文化的各个领域，例如，教育、政治、哲学等，对译者形成了比较大的挑战。本项目中，译者采用了平行文本来辅助该书的翻译工作。

通过翻译实践笔者发现，翻译此类文本时，充分利用平行文本可以帮助译者更全面地获取专业知识、快速学习专业术语、有效地模仿写作风格和借鉴表达方法。首先，译前准备阶段，译者通过多种方式查阅、整理相关的中文和日文平行文本，扩充相关背景知识，学习相关专业术语，弥补笔者在专业知识方面的缺漏。在译中，译者通过借鉴平行文本的表达方式和写作风格，对英文原文加以删减和重构，并根据中、英、日三种语言的差异加以调节，使译出来的文章更符合中文读者的习惯。最后，译者将完成的译文和平行文本进行比较，对译文进行修改和完善。本翻译项目中总结的平行文本查找、分析、整理、使用的方法，可以为从事相关类型文本翻译工作的译者提供参考。

This report uses the Encyclopaedia of Contemporary Japanese Culture as a research text. The book is a popular science book on Japanese culture, which is characterised by the use of precise and concise language. It provides a comprehensive but concise account of the development of various aspects or of a specialised field of work. It includes comparisons between the past and present, between China and abroad, and deals with the actual state of affairs, definitions and theoretical knowledge of certain matters. It is characterised by the authenticity and clarity of its information. In addition, the book is encyclopaedic and covers various areas of Japanese culture, such as education, politics and philosophy, posing a big challenge to the translator. For this project, the translator has used parallel texts to assist in the translation of the book.

Research has shown that making full use of parallel texts when translating such texts can help translators to gain more comprehensive expertise, learn terminology quickly, imitate writing styles and draw on methods of expression effectively. Firstly, in the preparation stage, the translator reviews and organises the relevant parallel texts in various ways to expand background knowledge and learn the relevant terminology, so as to fill in the gaps in the translator's professional knowledge. In the translation stage, the translator draws on the expressions and writing styles of the parallel texts, and makes deletions and reconstructions of the original English text, and adjusts them according to the differences in language, so that the translated text is more in line with the habits of Chinese readers. Finally, the translator compares the completed translation with the parallel text and makes changes and improvements to the translation. The methods for finding, analysing, collating and using parallel texts summarised in this project can be used as a reference for translators working on related types of texts.
