The development of Internet in China and the promotion of the "Belt and Road" initiative will inevitably impact and challenge the talent demand of language service enterprises, as well as the MTI students in colleges and universities, who are the main talents in the language service industry, and who are the main body of talents in the language service industry. They also face the expectation of employment. In this case, there will be a gap between the employment expectation of MTI translation masters and the current situation of MTI education from the perspective of language service enterprises. In order to further understand this gap and put forward suggestions to improve the current situation of MTI education, this study adopts questionnaire and interview survey. A questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the employment expectations of the current master of translation from five universities in Beijing to understand the employment expectation of the respondents, the influence of the Internet environment on the employment expectation, and the suggestions on the MTI training program in colleges and universities. The author also interviewed the language service enterprises and some MTI teachers and students in some colleges and universities. Interviews with enterprises are conducted to understand the employment expectations of the language service industry for the master of translation and the new expectations of the language service talents under the Internet environment. An interview survey of MTI teachers and students in some colleges and universities was also carried out.
The purpose of this study is to further understand the current situation of MTI education and the employment expectations of students in the language service industry. According to the results of the survey, the students’ employment expectations are basically in line with the expectations of the language services industry for MTI students. Masters of translation reflects that the main gaps in MTI education at present can be listed as followings: insufficient training intensity for translation majors, lack of practical courses, insufficient training of translation tools, and insufficient current training methods to enable translation majors to take direct steps into language service industry and so on; The language service enterprises participating in the survey expressed the hope that under the Internet environment, colleges and universities would like to set up relevant courses such as translation project management, so as to foster professional management personnel and professional talents.
Through the investigation of the Master of Translation and language service enterprises, this paper discusses the suggestions for the improvement of the situation of the MTI education in colleges and universities, and points out: (1) the colleges and universities should strengthen the training of translation major through the addition of specialized courses and the extension of academic hours; (2) the colleges and universities should set up practical courses related to the language service industry, such as Translation Project Management, and this can be achieved by referring to the courses of the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. From these courses, students can learn true translation project management in the actual operation of project management; (3) the colleges and universities should strengthen the cultivation of translation tools such as CAT, and set up corresponding courses or intensify the training of this course To enable students to adapt to work content and work form as soon as possible when entering the language service industry; (4) the colleges and universities should provide employment-related guidance, so that students can know the abilities they should have after entering the workplace. the colleges and universities should also tutor students how to adjust their mentality how to correctly face the interview; (5) the colleges and universities should attach importance to students' internship experience and they can provide students with the opportunity to practice in the language service industry through the form of cooperation between universities and enterprises.
