墓志铭，指放在墓里刻有死者生平事迹的石刻，集中展现了时代丧葬习俗，是丧葬观念的重要现实载体。唐五代小说中大量出现与墓志铭相关记录，是现实世界中墓志随葬传统影响下的结果。本文从唐五代小说中的墓志铭切入，将唐五代小说中墓志铭的功能分为身份标识、预知谶纬、遗铭求葬三类，对照历史传统中的墓志铭与小说文本中的墓志铭，分类讨论墓志铭在具体小说叙事中的作用，观察墓志铭在唐五代小说中的文学表现。在小说叙事中，墓志铭时常成为叙事的核心要素，推动情节发展，揭示故事的最终结局。一方面，唐五代小说中墓志铭记录反映了此时的丧葬习俗及其背后社会文化内涵，另一方面，唐五代小说超越现实，有其玄妙离奇的一面。

Epitaph, the stone carvings placed in the tomb engraved with the life deeds of the deceased, not only exhibits the funeral customs of the corresponding era, but also embodies the funeral ideas and culture. Influenced by the tradition of including the carvings with inscriptions in the funerary objects, there are a large number of epitaph—related records in the novels of the Tang and Five Dynasties. This essay focuses on the epitaphs in novels of the Tang and Five Dynasties and divides the functions of epitaphs in the novels into three categories: identity identification, the inscriptions with prophecies, and petition for reburial. I would further discuss the role that epitaphs of each category plays in specific novels by comparing epitaphs in history and those in the novels, observing how epitaph is presented in novels of the Tang and Five Dynasties. Epitaph is often a central narrative element in novels that drives the plot forward and reveals the ending of the story. On the one hand, the epitaph records in the novels of the Tang and Five Dynasties reflect the funeral customs at this time as well as the social and cultural connotations behind them. On the other hand, the novels also have a mysterious and bizarre side that transcends reality.
