At present, the phenomenon of cultural dispersion around the world has produced an unignorable issue of cultural identity, and the modern dispersed groups in dual or multi-cultural spaces are experiencing an identity crisis of cultural identity. The cultural program National Treasure on global social media platform, which serves as a benchmark for cultural programs, has attracted the pursuit of domestic and overseas audiences, providing a representative media sample for China's cross-cultural communication research. This study integrates relevant theoretical paradigms such as semiotics, narratology, and rhetoric, introduces cultural identity recognition theory, rhetoric theory, and discourse theory to analyze National Treasure on YouTube platform and its comments, providing theoretical and media practice value for revealing how emotions construct cultural identity recognition.
This study is divided into five chapters, namely the emotional logic of cultural identity recognition construction in cross-cultural communication, the emotional codes of the National Treasure: symbols, rhetoric, and meaning, the audience interaction and emotional effects of National Treasure on YouTube platform, the emotional discourse of cultural identity recognition construction in cross-cultural communication among audiences, and the emotional issues and strategies of cultural identity recognition construction in cross-cultural communication among audiences.
Chapter 1 traces the emotional logic of cultural identity construction in cross-cultural communication, systematically expounds the theoretical trajectory and realistic context of cultural identity construction in cross-cultural communication, tracing the emotional basis of cultural identity construction in cross-cultural communication from the perspectives of symbolic representation and identity reconstruction, and analyzing the emotional intercourse of cultural identity construction driven by media from the perspectives of media rituals, media platforms, and media languages.
Chapter 2 analyzes the text of the three seasons of National Treasure (a total of 30 episodes) from the perspectives of core symbolic codes, textual rhetoric, and meaning interpretation. Among them, the core symbolic codes include four types of scenes, characters, props, and auditory symbols. Based on Burke's identity rhetorical view, this chapter explores how the program achieves emotional resonance through the rhetoric of sympathetic identification in story contexts, how it forms an emotional alliance through the rhetoric of oppositional identity in war metaphors, and how it completes emotional mapping through unconscious identity rhetoric in relationship reconstruction. Under the emotional code encoding, the program is able to realize the meaning of cultural identity reconstruction through the creation of poetic atmosphere, the activation of common emotions through the awakening of archetypes, and the re-creation of cultural identity through the accumulation of symbols.
Chapter 3 explores the audience interaction and emotional effects of the National Treasure on the YouTube platform. First, it statistically analyzes the quantitative data of audience interaction with the program to understand the general situation of interaction, and then captures 5010 effective comment text. Second, it uses the Jieba segmentation tool to statistically analyze the high-frequency words in audience comments, and then uses the SnowNLP sentiment analysis tool to analyze the distribution of audience comment emotional tendencies and positive/negative emotional words. Finally, it uses Gephi to draw a co-occurrence network diagram of high-frequency words and specific emotional words to further clarify the audience's emotional experience. The study found that the cultural narrative based on cultural relics can attract the audience's positive attention to Chinese culture, encourage the open expression of collective positive emotions, and complete the reconstruction of cultural identity from the program text context to the social cultural context in the process of individual emotional expression.
Chapter 4 conducts a discourse analysis of the comments on the National Treasure on the YouTube platform using the three-dimensional model of Falkowitz's discourse analysis. The study found that the audience of the program focused on expressing their cultural identity in terms of ethnic identity, dispersed identity, and heritage identity in their linguistic expression of cultural identity. They completed the intertextual imagination of Chinese cultural images and the consistent metaphor of cultural identity legitimacy in their discourse practice, and conveyed the emotional commonality of building a shared spiritual home, constructing a shared cultural system, and consolidating a shared cultural identity in their social practice.
Chapter 5 delves deeply into the emotional issues of constructing cultural identity among audiences in cross-cultural communication in variety shows, mainly manifested in three aspects of context disconnection, emotional polarization, and discourse crisis. It proposes emotional strategies for constructing audiences' cultural identity through variety shows as a medium: broadening the symbolic dimension of cultural identity to achieve context sharing, strengthening the technological connection of virtual communities to achieve emotional resonance, and conveying the concept of a community of human destiny to achieve discourse symbiosis. |
