语用文体学是运用语用学相关理论进行文体分析的文体学分支，合作原则是该领域最常用的理论之一。其最早由美国哲学家格莱斯提出，旨在研究人们日常交流中的“言外之意”。该原则包括四个准则：数量准则、质量准则、关联准则和方式准则。这一理论被文体学家采纳并用于分析文学作品中的对话。《镜中奇遇记》是英国作家刘易斯·卡罗尔继《爱丽丝梦游仙境》之后的又一力作，人物之间的对话对全面理解这部小说至关重要。因此，本研究旨在探讨《镜中奇遇记》中人物间的对话如何违反合作原则并产生相应的文体效果。本研究收集了镜中世界发生的所有涉及违反合作原则的对话，并根据四条准则进行分类，统计了不同人物违反四个准则的分布情况，并对选取的33个实例展开细致分析。研究发现，在《镜中奇遇记》中，爱丽丝最常违反相关准则和方式准则，而镜中生物最常违反质量准则和方式准则。不同人物对违反四条准则呈现出不同偏好。违反合作原则对《镜中奇遇记》的人物塑造、镜中世界构建和语言价值体现均起着重要作用。此外，本研究可以帮助英语学习者更好地理解故事。

Pragmastylistics is a branch of stylistics which applies pragmatic theories to stylistic studies, with Cooperative Principle being one of the most widely-used theory. Cooperative Principle was first proposed by H. P. Grice to study what is implied in communication. Four maxims are initiated to further explain the principle: the maxim of quantity, the maxim of quality, the maxim of relation and the maxim of manner. This theory has been adopted by stylisticians to analyze conversations in literary works and has proved its feasibility in literary text analysis. Through the Looking-Glass, written by Lewis Carroll, is another great success after his masterpiece Alice in Wonderland. Conversations between characters are crucial to a full understanding of this novel. This research aims to discuss how non-observance of Cooperative Principle functions in Carroll’s Through the Looking-Glass. It collects all conversations involving non-observance of Cooperative Principle that take place in the Looking-Glass, and classifies them according to four maxims. Then the distribution of different characters’ non-observance of four maxims is calculated and presented, followed by a detailed analysis of 33 chosen examples as case studies. It is found that in Through the Looking-Glass, Alice breaks the maxims of relation and manner most frequently, while creatures breaks the maxims of quality and manner most frequently. Characters show distinct patterns of breaking four maxims. Furthermore, non-observance of Cooperative Principle has contributed to characterization, construction of the imaginary world and manifestation of linguistic value in Through the Looking-Glass. This study can also help Englis learners better understand the story.
