插图在小学教材中是不可缺少的角色。在小学教材中，文本和插图配合完成对学生观察能力、认知能力、理解能力、表达能力和学习能力的培养。目前国内对于教材插图的大多数研究目的是探讨教材插图如何帮助学生理解文本内容，也有一些对国外教材插图使用的研究。但是关于国内外教材插图的对比研究很少。现有的对比研究也通常集中在生物、地理等科学学科。几乎没有对于英语教材插图的国内外对比研究。国内使用的英语教材可以分为两种：国内出版社出版的和国外出版社出版的。这两种英语教材的插图具有不一样的特点。本研究选择剑桥大学出版社出版的Guess What！和北京师范大学出版社出版的小学英语教材作为研究材料，将这两本教材的插图从形式、功能和组织三个角度进行分类。在分类的基础上，本研究分析两本英语教材的插图特点并比较它们的异同点。本研究希望帮助教材编者改善英语教材插图的编排，并且帮助解决国内英语教材插图中存在的问题。

Illustrations play an indispensable role in primary school textbooks. In the textbooks for primary school students, the text and illustrations work together to cultivate students’ abilities of observation, cognition, understanding, expression and learning. At present, most domestic studies aim to explore how textbook illustrations help students understand the content of textbooks. There are also some studies discussing the use of illustrations in foreign textbooks. But there are few comparative studies on domestic EFL textbook illustrations and foreign EFL textbook illustrations. Such comparative studies usually focus on biology, geography and other science subjects. There is nearly no comparative study on illustrations in EFL textbooks. The EFL textbooks used in China can be divided into two categories: those published by domestic presses and those by foreign presses. The illustrations in the two kinds of EFL textbooks have different characteristics. The present study chooses Guess What! published by Cambridge University Press and English published by Beijing Normal University Press as research materials, classifying their illustrations from three perspectives: forms, functions and organization. On the basis of classifications, the study analyzes the characteristics of illustrations in the two EFL textbooks and compares their similarities and differences. It is hoped to help textbook editors improve the EFL textbook illustration arrangements and help solve the related problems existing in the illustrations of domestic EFL textbooks.
