本文正文分为四章，第一章从许地山的滨海生活经历和跨海漂泊体验入手，结合许地山的生平经历，整合、梳理许地山的海洋相关生命体验，并整理许地山文学创作中海洋书写的整体情况，依据具体内容对许地山的海洋书写进行分类；第二章围绕许地山海洋书写中的海洋家园图景展开，分析其作品中自然之海书写片段的诗性价值和审美意义，并对海滨家园百态的具象描摹进行分析整理，在此基础上，尝试探讨在人与自然海洋的“唱和关系中，许地山对于自然的守望和本真的回归意愿；第三章以许地山作品中时常出现的人生“苦海”意象为研究重点，探讨许地山海洋书写中的人生思索，佛教深刻影响下形成的“苦海”概念在许地山的笔下获得了积极的升华，而许地山对于人生之海的书写也展现了日常性与神秘性相结合的特征；第四章探讨许地山海洋书写中展现的文化接受情况，多重宗教对其海洋意识的塑造、异域文化对许地山海洋观念的丰富，以及泰戈尔文学创作和个人思想对许地山的深刻影响共同构筑了许地山海洋书写的思想文化内核。
