孟子是儒家的代表人物，中国古代著名的哲学家、思想家和教育家。义利观是孟子哲学思想的精髓，贯穿于孟子的整个思想体系之中，它也是孟子价值观的一种体现。孟子在义利观上主张先义而后利，当义和利发生矛盾冲突时，要舍生取义，从而成就理想人格即君子。这种先义而后利的义利观重视个人对社会的贡献和责任，个人对社会的贡献越多，他的社会价值也就越高。实现每个人的价值的关键是看社会价值的大小，只有社会价值大于个人价值的人生才是有意义的，即可成为孟子心目中的君子人格。

Mencius is one of the representatives of Confucianism and a famous ancient Chinese philosopher, thinker and educator. The core of his philosophy that lies in the entire system of his ideology is the outlook of righteousness and benefit, which is also a reflection of his outlook of value. Mencius holds the point that righteousness has priority over benefit and if there is a confliction between the two, men should give up benefit in order to achieve righteousness and finally build the ideal personality, i.e., the gentlemanship. This outlook of righteousness and benefit emphasizes on the importance of individual contribution and responsibility to the society which means the greater the contribution you make , the higher the social value you have. The achieving of social value is the key to fulfill a person’s individual value and only when the social value is bigger than the individual value can life be meaningful. That is what Mencius called the gentleman personality.
