20世纪历史的革命性、断裂性与碎片化造就了《野草》和“拱廊计划”的意象书写。鲁迅与本雅明在迥异的现实环境中，不约而同地选择以意象揭示时代的困境，构筑起历史与现实的寓言，并探寻救赎的可能。通过将历史比拟为永恒循环的“雅努斯”，鲁迅和本雅明都明确了自己作为知识分子的历史定位，立足于“当下”，在传统中开拓未来救赎的希望。而大众所构筑起的社会现实则在封建文明的压迫与资本主义生产机制的裹挟之下变得僵化凝滞，难有革命的潜能。鲁迅与本雅明面对惨淡的现实，塑造出个体英雄，以刺瞎“雅努斯”的方式实现现代性的突围，通过给予大众以“震惊”体验，使其从沉睡麻木的状态中清醒，走向反抗现实的道路，进而打破历史的循环，在“当下”的裂隙实现救赎。
