This report is based on a non-literary book, High Performance Habits which will be published by the Hinabook Publishing House. It took the author about three months to translate this 100, 000-word book into a Chinese version with about 180,000 Chinese characters. In the report, the author used the hermeneutic approach in translation put forward by George Steiner to solve actual problems. Steiner divided translation into four stages, namely, trust, aggression, incorporation and restitution.

By reading the original text and relevant background information, the author trusts High Performance Habits and believes there is something worth translating. Then, the author invades and extracts the text in order to get of better understanding of the meaning and the affection and to make sure the translation is faithful to the original text. Next, the author absorbs the meaning and form of High Performance Habits to translate it into Chinese. In this stage, various translation strategies are used to see to that the translated version is authentic. The last stage, restitution, focuses on the equivalence of meaning. It helps to maintain the balance between the translated version and the original text.

In this report, the author managed to explain that the hermeneutic approach in translation can be used in guiding the translation of non-literary text. Meanwhile, the author also reflects on the translation process, hoping to accumulate experience for future translation work.
