随着全球经济一体化趋势的深入,国际商务交往活动日益频繁,现代商务知识在国家间经济交流中愈发重要。要了解现代商务活动,熟稔商务术语是不可或缺的环节。为此,我国引进了一批国外现代商务沟通教材,国内研究人员也编纂了大量外贸类、国际商务类词典,为我国对外经济交流发挥了重要作用。纵览市场上各类商务沟通教材译本,译者为了将内容更好地呈现给国内读者,可谓尽心尽力。但由于新媒体的兴起,新术语层出不穷,纸质辞书更新换代缓慢,商务术语翻译水平参差不齐,译文的统一性和规范性没有得到足够重视,因此有必要在这方面作深入研究及探讨。笔者的翻译报告就是在这样的大背景下展开的。本报告的研究对象选自美国沟通顾问John V. Thill和美国格罗斯蒙特学院(Grossmont College)商务沟通教授Courtland L. Bovée合著《商务沟通精要》(Business Communication Essentials)的第一、二单元,涉及国际商务、沟通策略和新媒体技术等内容,文本中使用了诸多已沿袭下来的术语,同时也出现了不少新的专业术语。该翻译报告从现代术语学理论出发,结合商务英语的语言特征,探索新术语的翻译策略,同时对已沿袭下来的术语进行分析、评述和对比,对新术语的翻译提出笔者的个人见解和翻译方法,探索这一理论对术语翻译所起的指导作用,探寻合适的翻译策略。报告分为四部分。第一部分为引言,首先介绍翻译项目的背景、意义及文本特点;第二部分为报告的理论部分,详细阐述了术语的基本概念,术语翻译重要性及标准,以及现代商务英语术语特点及翻译现状;第三部分为本篇报告的重点,详细阐述了译者在翻译过程中遇到的难点,包括对现存术语译法质疑和对新术语的“定名”之难,并举例说明翻译过程中采用的翻译方法及技巧;第四部分为结语,总结翻译经验以及仍待解决的问题。

In the process of global economic integration, knowledge in the domain of international business increasingly gains its status in the frequent international business exchanges. To understand business terms is the first step to understand contemporary business activities. For this reason, China has introduced a number of textbooks on modern business communication from abroad, and domestic researchers and scholars have compiled dictionaries on international business of great quantity. Translators of the introduced textbooks have made endeavors to meet the need of readers. However, as the new media mushroomed, the emergence of new business terms and the slowly-updated paper dictionaries generated the business term translations which demand consistency and standardization. The status quo of term translation in business English has provided the subject to be discussed in this thesis. This thesis is a report on a translation project. The source text is an excerpt from the textbook Business Communication Essentials, by John V. Thill and Courtland L. Bovée. The book is of international business, communication strategies and technologies of new media, and the source text itself is a collection of business terms and new terms. On the basis of theory of terminology, the report aims to explore the translation strategies of new terms by analyzing the linguistic features of business English, to review and then to revise the existing terms in the perspective of theory of terminology. The report consists of four parts. The first part is an introduction, including the background of the source text and significance of the project. The second part explains the theory of terminology, explicating the importance and criteria of term translation, as well as the features of business English terminology. The third part explains preparation, difficulties the author encountered during the translation, and discusses the strategies of term translation. The last part is the conclusion, composed of lessons learned from this project and problems to be dealt with in the future.
