《太空简史》(The History of Space Exploration)由英国伦敦的经典出版社（Quintessence Editions Ltd）出版。该书是系统介绍人类太空探索史的科普读物，因此翻译该书具有重要意义。本文是基于《太空简史》翻译项目的前言和第十章的实践报告，以叶子南教授提出的翻译文本分类新思路为依据，对文本进行细分，将其定为硬文本。论文通过分析具体案例，着重从语言表达和信息传达等方面，探讨了科技英语文本的翻译技巧。笔者认为源文本的词汇大多是硬文本词汇，其词义边缘清晰，词的解释余地小，但翻译词汇时不能机械地追求词性对等，应根据句意表达需要，进行词义引申和转换，适当使用四字格，让句子通顺流畅。处理句子时，特别是复杂长难句，应划分意群，翻译时可采取增词法、拆句法和合并法，以及调整语序，最后用地道的中文准确传达出原文信息。科普文本力求严谨精确，译者要具备语篇意识，特别注意语篇的衔接和连贯，注意上下文之间的联系，前后章节的衔接，准确传达原文的意思和内部逻辑。

Published by the Quintessence Editions Ltd., a famous press in London, The History of Space Exploration is the popular science book that systematically introduces the history of space exploration. Hence, translating the book has great significance. This report is based on the translation project of The History of Space Exploration (Introduction and Chapter 10 ). Based on Professor Ye Zinan's new idea of translation-oriented text classification, the report classifies the text as hard text, and analyzes the skills of translating the text of English for science and technology (EST) from language expression and information transmission via analyzing specific examples. Although the text contains many hard text words with clear-cut and precise meanings, leaving little room for translators to expound on the words, the translator still should avoid mechanically pursuing word-for-word equivalence. Instead, he or she should extend words’ meaning, convert words’ part of speech and properly use Chinese four-character structure according to the need of conveying meaning, so as to make sentences smooth and coherent. For long and complicated sentences, the translator should divide them into meaning groups and translate them into idiomatic Chinese by way of adding words and reorganizing the sentence structure. EST is characterized by accuracy and preciseness, so the translator should cultivate textual awareness and pay special attention to cohesion and coherence of texts, the connection between contexts and the cohesion among chapters, so as to accurately convey both the meaning and internal logic of the original text.
